My opinion, the 2420 and not because it costs more. It will be my pick Just as soon as my HL- 5140 needs a drum.

Ditto! Although the H-5140 is a grreat deal right now. got it lock, stock and barrel $198 for printer and $125 for 2nd tray. A bargain! and it works like a charm.

Re: Another suggestion
Calnotary,
First let me say I know absolutely nothing about the second HP printer that you mentioned (other than the fact that it is much more expensive than the HP 1320). I purchased a 1320 a month or so ago. Heh, I did my homework; I did my due diligence, researched these boards, etc. But somehow I got confused. I was under the impression that one could go on ebay and buy a second tray for the 1320. Nope; I was disabused of that notion. What someone suggested was buying a refurbished 1300. From what I understand the 1300 does accomodate two trays. I guess I wish I had done that myself.
Do a search here and you should come up with what I am talking about.

If you can get the part number for the 2nd tray, just go on GOOGLE and type it in. It will bring up all different companies that sell it. I got one for my printer, half of what I would of paid. Came in the orginal manufactors carton. Hope this helps you.

Re: Another suggestion
It's my understanding that if you have a 1320 it will NOT accomodate a second tray unless you have the 1320 TN. I have the 1320 TN and it works like a charm when printing docs. I think I should upgrade the memory though. Those large PDF files can take a lot of time. I also like the fact that I have the 1320 network to my other computer.

I bought the 1320 sometime ago from staples, when I found out it would not support a second tray,I took it back and exchanged for the 1320 tn with a second tray. And I do love it.Next is trying to refill my own toner.

Re: Toner refill
Hi Della, Do a search for toner refills. I just ordered a kit so that I can have a refill on standby. Good luck!

Della - You can do it. I refill for a Canon and an HP, and I have done a Samsung.
It's a snap. DO get the hole burning tool.
I refill several at one time. Oh yeah. Love it.

Thanks John and Brenda my refill and kit just became available so I just ordered it. I am sick of paying the high price of new ones. Darn I updated my profile and now it shows my name instead DellaCa.

HP has installed in the newer version of all its printers that can take a second tray a secret device that sends out vibrations that prohibit multiple identical postings. Without that, it is likely that participants here would post up to six copies of the very same message.

Re: printer
Don't be sorry for being new. Each and every one of us, including Hugh, were new to this. You gotta start somewhere.
Historically, you would not 'need' a second tray. However, as more and more SA's have them, the lenders and title companies are requesting that proper paper sizes be utilized, i.e., letter and legal. With a PCL compliant laser printer that sports two input paper trays, you have the capability of using letter and legal intermixed when printing. If you don't have two tray capability, then you simply print everything on legal size.
I don't know if there are any companies (other than a few SS's) that are 'requiring' two tray printers though. Maybe others have noticed.

One tray for legal sized paper, the other for letter. Please read post 33325 and best of luck.

I just got an HP 1320TN from Office Depot. Came with $50 rebate. This model has two trays. Come with 16 MB of memory and can be upgraded to 144. Very speedy. Could not find any deals on this model on the internet.
