Re: How many of you here speak anyother language?

I speak the Scandinavian languages, but don't have to use that in this business. We all speak English as well. Have done signings for Scandinavia's and we enjoy conversing in our language during our meeting.

For Spanish Speaking notaries...

One thing you may want to remind SS, and others who contract you for a spanish speaking closing... it is not just the speaking that you do in Spanish, you also have to translate ALL of the docs for the borrower. It takes quite a bit longer, and is a very involved signing. Most people don't realize that the docs have to be translated, I know I didnt.

Im not sure if I have to translate all docs in to spanish. I believe I just need to describe the docs, but not
translating them.

The way I do my signings in English is the same way I do it in Spanish. Takes the same amount of time for me.

Re: Erna - interesting point

There was a program on TV recently about an autistic savant in England, who has a photographic memory (like to the nth degree). It was indicated that he learned icelandic in seven days. The point was made that Icelandic is an incredibly difficult language.

I also speak Spanish. And I used to be able to speak portuguese too.

Yes I heard about that man. Incredible, seven days. Here I am 25 years later and still make horried typoes in English.
My son speaks Spanish and Portuguese, as he worked in Mexico for a year and now he has been working in Brazil for two years.
Icelandic probaly is very difficault but in icelandic we spell it the way it sounds I keep wanting to do that with English.

I also speak Spanish and it will also take me the same amount of time. However, I tend to chit-chat more when it is in Spanish and they often-times offer the inevitable cup of Cuban coffee, which I will always accept.

And, just a note along those lines, I'm very into marketing, etc. For those of you that don't know, in order to make the borrower totally at ease, be willing to partake of offered drinks, even if you only take water. It puts them at ease and friendly, which makes for an easier signing.

Just my opinion!

Mysti

Mysti, I totally agree that sometimes this is better...to accept a drink...yes, it does put the borrower at ease.

I am not sure why, but I made it one of my "rules" not to ever take a drink so that things did not go long, because I just don't want to make it more like a social occasion than a business meeting. But, that's just me. I tend to be too adept at getting comfortable...I might just pull off my shoes, tell them to change the channel to Seinfeld and unsnap that ol' uncomfortable wonder bra if I did not stay focused on the business at hand.

Often I have been offered coffee or tea. I just find that I will get squirmy in my chair if I take coffee at a signing. Now, if it is really hot, I will accept a drink of water. No caffeine, though.

Also, I get very worried that I will spill. If they spill, no problem. If I do...now that's a problem.

It's this dark and perverse male driven society that we live in.

Many billions have been made by men who have convinced the world that women should wear shoes and undergarments.

Brenda gripes:

***Many billions have been made by men who have convinced the world that women should wear shoes and undergarments.***

Brenda, I'm sorry, you are as full of it as a Fort Worth feed lot.

Only a woman could come up with the cruel mockery of undewear that simultaneously increases the desirability of the object while rendering it even more inaccessible than usual. Anybody who thinks the inventor of pantyhose was anyone but a man-hating broad with all the cuddleability of a Sherman tank will never really understand the battle of the sexes. You just got your pheromone prescription cancelled.

I will not forget this, Mr. Smarty Man--you know I mean that.

How many new companies did you market to today? I marketed our network today...a bunch.

Charlotte, Sheree and Katisha are picking up your slack.

Stop daydreaming about being a cowboy, Tex.

We want to see your daily marketing report.

The underwire bra was invented by a man. As were pointy toed, high-heeled shoes.

Gee, thanks.

Beccccccca reports:

Assuming you are correct -- and I'm granting that assumption, my sweet Becky, only so that I can follow it up with a quick one-two -- it took a man's intelligence only a little while to figure out how to make those bra-stuffers pay off after after women had been consigning them for millennia to roles simply as dinner plates for rug rats.

Brenda - have pity

I have told you and told you:

Many people in this world see images when they read words, they can't just leave the words alone. I am one.

Some of the images you present are a bit more than I can handle.
Actually, far more.

I agree. I cannot believe anyone would say that.

Horrible thing to allude to. But, it is not pretty inside the world of legal, mortgage and title. My apologies to all for admitting I think bras are uncomfortable.

Re: I disagree. I love my bras.

I have all types...all colors... but my favorite is my NSA embroidered one with the special lacey thing on the top. I don't carry a gun as some posters do, I just flash a little NSA lace to the hubby while the wife is serving me that drink and the loan is signed snippy snap.

Don't you just love Anonymous posters.

I don't take drinks either but I carry a small bottled water that I don't open so that it doesn't appear that I am too good to have a drink.

I am in an area where to put someone at ease means look at the pictures of their kids, admire their roses, pet the dog, talk about the latest Law and Order SVU, politics and why they are refinancing and THEN get down to business. I settle for:

"No thanks I've got my own water right here"

"Wow you have a beautiful family"

"Yes I admired your gorgeous flowers when I came up the walkway"

"Oh my, you are making me feel so at home I could talk forever but I've got another appointment after yours so I've got to stay on track! - Thank you so much for your hospitality though."

Actually I am almost regretting my snappy remarks because I'm pretty sure that it and telling about my horrific signing today are going to get me kicked off this board.

Just in case, I've been lurking and attempting to give some helpful advice just so that I'm not known as the 'Worst One.' I don't think it's gonna work.

I just can't stand those Anonymous Crabbers!

That is funny! I do speak Spanish and I find that accepting a drink often helps the borrowers to be at eased.

I have also found Spanish speaking clients will most likely trust a person that speaks their own language and of course, the signing will take a little longer because there is more talking that takes places. But that is the culture and I have no problem with that.
