Make sure you get it in writing
After several postpones, it looked like this loan was all set. The closing was set. Unfortunately, it was cancelled less than 30 minutes from close time. Docs were printed but no HUD-1. Signing company advised appreciated time and effort, fax over your cancellation invoice. Done. When I called back approximately 2.5 weeks later to find out about payments for all the jobs done, was told that cancellation fee was cut in half for this particular job. If I did not get it in writing then that is whay they will pay.
So from now on needless to say I will never accept "the word" of any representative. I will get them to fax confirmation of acceptable cancellation fee right there while I am holding on the line. I know it might seem petty but every bit of income that this business provides is just that. Afterall, this is how I make my living.
Then for the person in accounts payable to suggest that I was perhaps not being truthful by saying that this is not what they pay and if I did not get it in writing they will send out a check for the amount "they"wish to pay me. Unacceptable! NOW I know and will do nothing unless it is in writing!
I just thought I would vent a bit today.

Can understand how you're p#$%ed off. This kinda thing just makes my day as a SA. How about sharing the name of the offending co. ? I think you owe them that much! BTW good idea to get it in writing, too bad it has to be this way...

I agree with getting things in writing, I was called for a signing for this past Tuesday at 9:00 am but I told the SS that I couldn't accept it for that time, she asked what time I was available and I told her 10-10:30 and she said that is okay just contact borrowers to tell them. I did contact them and the closing had to take place at 9:00 because one of the borrowers was going away on business. Called SS to tell them but docs were already overnighted to me. We rescheduled for this Friday am. I never got new docs? Once I got the docs for the Tuesday signing I called and asked what to do with docs and they said to return to TC and I did but I never got docs for Friday signing and never received a return call or return email to see what transpired?
I think they are blaming me for the mix up and hired another SA but I never accepted this signing for 9:00 am. Next time I can't do it for the time specified and the SS changes the time I want it in writing from them. This is one of my regular SS and I hope I am not off their list for something that was not my mistake.

So sorry this happened to you.
Seems like it only happens to each of us ONCE, tho'. Also good idea to actually check what they 'said' the fee would be... sometimes there are 'little typos' on that very important part, too. And, clarify what YOUR edoc fee is---not theirs---and get that in writing, too.

Re: So sorry this happened to you.
Thanks. I went through the contract and there is no mention of the cancellation fee being a set price. It is according to what is agreed upon. I made the mistake of thinking a "verbal agreed upon" would be acceptable. When I was asked who told me it was ok---I said the wrong name having just gotten off the phone with my favorite company/rep to work with. THe accounts payable person quickly said NO there is no one here by that name. Then I asked if there was a Rick there ---he was the one who told me to send in my invoice for cancellation fee. He never said anything about a set cancellation fee.
Unfortunately, the SS contract does not say get that in writing. YOu know how with say a Notary Pro, they have your fee and cancellation fee right on the order request? I LOVE THIS! I wish all SS companies did this. That way it is NO confusion or NO SA has to experience what I just did. Knowing IS half the battle....and now I know how to deal.
By the way, the signing company was Fox.
