Nasco and E&O
Does Nasco require E&O insurance if your state does not require it? I am working on their application and they want a copy of the policy. However, I don't carry it since it is not required and I have never been turned away for it before.
Thank you, Toni

I've seen several companies that require E & O, regardless of state requirements.

E&O: Don't leave home without it!
Whether your state requires E&O insurance, you should have it! Don't know about NY law, but CT law says the notary has NO LIMIT on their liability. Unless you're independantly wealthy and want to become independantly poor due to a lawsuit, buy some protection.

And unless you feel like burning small amounts of money too, research notary e & o versus other e&o so you know what you are actually being protected against.

Where are you located Toni?
Hi Toni,
Just wondering where in NY you are located.
E&O Insurance is always good to have and alot of companies outside of NY like to/ask if you carry it, and some of them require it....
I carry only $25,000 it's not much but at least it is something.

Re: E&O Ins and Umbrella Policy
Have any of you considered adding an umbrella policy to your homeowners policy? Talk to your insurance carrier, I believe that would cover any amount in excess of your existing E&O policy. Check it out with your insurance agent.

Re: E&O Ins and Umbrella Policy
I don't think a personal liability umbrella is going to cover anyone for business unless your insurance agent is selling you a commercial umbrella on your homeowners policy. I haven't worked in an insurance office since 1990, but I don't see that as likely either.
