On your mark get set . . . . SIGN!
This is a vent/request for advice/vent some more. Here goes:
Last night around 8:45pm get a call from a desperate TC needing a loan signed in a minute town 1 hr 10 min from my home. I was so hesitant having just returned from another signing kind of near that one and calculating the time w/e-doc (Ameriquest) I know I wouldn't see home until 1 am.
TC calls borrower to see if OK for late night signing and it was fine. And again, since it was a title co & they agreed to my large fee I take it. Docs come off along with about 45 pgs of faxed junk docs and I'm off. TC even sends me directions for RandMcNally (which I already have but whatever).
Being a woman and driving alone I soon find myself in the densest wooded areas of Illinois. Though I have a full tank of gas and a cell phone on ROAM, the only thing I'm hoping for is clearly marked addresses. I pass rusty mailbox after rusty mailbox, opossum after EEK opossum . . . . then I'm lost. 11:15 pm I'm in her lane have to be sooo close, so I call the Borrower.
After repeated tries on my very weak cell signal (thanks US Cellular - Sprint bailed out long time ago). I can barely hear "Hello? Hello? . . . . " (then click). I retry the call and I quickly blurt out who I am. Elderly Mrs. Borrower says "oh, the loan yea he was already here . . " I say "Excuse me, I don't understand . . . (then click). I am confounded so I drive about 3 miles back to get better reception and call again - Mrs. Borrower says" I knew you'd call, yea man came and I told him a lady was coming but he said 'oh no I have the docs', so we signed the loan and he left about 20 min ago."
My head is spinning due to exhaustion/confusion/fury. But I conclude conversation with Mrs. Borrower reassuring her that the goal was to complete her loan and that being done I hope it is a smooth finish. She was concerned though about my having docs too. I mentioned that though I have them they will be disposed of properly and not having been signed or notarized, their virtually just paper now. I asked who the notary was she had seen and she couldn't remember, though he was an insurance salesman by day and SA by night. Hanging up I just bid her a good night, I called my husband to update him then turned my soothing jazz up REALLY LOUD on my desolate ride home.
Getting home at 12:15am I call the TC/cell # and update her. After her string of expletives she apologizes profusely and explains there was a notary assigned but she'd been trying to call him all evening. After 3 hours of his not answering she was forced to re-assign. Trying to be nice silence was all I could muster. I asked how would you like these docs and my invoice to be sent. She gave me the info (UPS) and apologized again.
I beat myself cuz my gut said don't do it, but trying to help and be helped I took the chance. Thanks for letting me spew. Now I must go, have an invoice to produce, scraps to ship, coffee to inject and an insurance agent/notary to hunt down --just kidding on one of those, you guess (-:

Oh no poor thing. Jazz to Bluegrass hmm, interesting transition. My husband and I have jazz pulsing thru our veins. Last weekend even went to Navy Pier for WNUA Jazz Attack. Saw Johnathan Butler, Rick Braun, Peter White and Richard Elliot. The gentle night breeze from the Lake and the music were the perfect way to celebrate our 10th anniversary.

I was up in Chi-town last week to celebrate the 'return' of my cousins and uncle from Hawaii for a family reunion. They had not seen Navy Pier in the last 27 years. They were culture shocked to the max! lol, my cousin remembered a long slab out to Lake Michigan that my Dad took him and my brother fishing on. They rode the Ferris Wheel

DB, did you mention the name of the TC? I'm just curious. I had the same situation with a SS but it was not in a rural area and it was not midnight. What a bummer.

No, didn't mention TC cuz I really don't think that's their M.O. But this particular instance was a fiasco! Not trying to burn bridges yet, but if it becomes a pattern, I'll surely clue you all in.
However, I now see why many of you run like crazy from AmeriQuest loans. They do seem to have alot of drama involved. Or, am I misinformed? Lots of stress w/ docs and clueless borrowers - what's your experience?
