Out of County Signing
Can I notarize in a different county from where I am registered?

When you post a question, please include the two-letter abbreviation of your state in the "Author" field. That will help us help you by giving answers appropriate to your state.

Please be very careful when posting such generalizations as they are not necessarily correct. In this case, the poster asked if he/she had jurisdiction outside the county in which they registered. Fortunately, the poster is from CA where your answer is correct. However, had the poster been from LA, your answer would have been incorrect and thus may have caused the poster to do something they are not authorized to do.
That's why it is a good practice to include your two-letter state abbreviation in the "author" line. It just may avoid providing an incorrect general answer to a specific question.
Please don't take this post as being condescending. Only as constructive criticism that may prevent a notary from a bad error.

This is also why notaries should be INTIMATELY familiar with their respective state laws. The question could have been easily answered by looking in the CA handbook. It just amazes me how some people get their commission and still don't know the basics. I was hoping that mandatory education would help, but the way that some companies are handing out completion certificates with no verification that the course was taken and the SOS approving it, it is just an additional expense for the notary.
Excuse me now while I go throw up. Just thinking about it makes me sick!!
