PAW Can You Help/Microsoft Excell/Windows XP Prof
I had to replace my hard drive and long story short I ended up with Windows XP prof instead of home. So now I use Windows excell to do my money worksheet to keep track of closings by the month/year. I was attempting to modify the sum cell for the total for the month of June; added a client. When I try to just add the new cell (I83) it tells me I have "too many arguments in the formula" and to press the equal button? next to my equal sign in the formula. I have tried everything and nothing works. PAW any ideas. Thanks.

=SUM(I3,I7,I11,I15,I19,I23,I27,I31,I35,I39,I43,I47,I51,I55,I59,I63,I67,I71,I75,I79,I87,I91,I95,I99,I103,I107,I111,I115,I119,I123)
Ernest I am trying to include or add I83 for a new client. Thanks.

Teasa, are there any numbers in, say I4:I6? It looks like you are shifting down four rows each time; correct? If there are no other numbers in column I, you can use the formula =SUM(I:I) and that will get you rolling. Otherwise, there are some suggestions I can make, depending on how adventerous you are feeling. :-)
I use Excel all the time at my day job, and am often required to do things that others have said "Impossible!" to. <laugh>
If you'd like, you can e-mail me a "sanitized" version of your sheet, and I can provide the needed formulae.
Hope this helps! :-) -Jim

Click on the cell with the formula you posted. Then click on the formula bar to edit it. Click so your insertion point is between "I79," and "I87". Type "I83,". In all cases, the double quotes are just for writing about your problem and do not go into Excel. Push Enter.
Be careful not to put any spaces, tabs, or any other stray marks into the formula.
Normally I do not criticize spelling, but I do if it might interfere with a successful web search. "Excel" only has one "l".
I just finished a school year teaching 6th and 7th graders to use the Microsoft Office Suite.

Ignore my previous post, use PAW's instead
Just when my dislike of Microsoft was beginning to fade, I find out they don't know what the word SUM means.
If you want sometiing that will be easier to update in the future, you could put a running total column in. The obvious disadvantage is it would take up more space.

Are you trying to "SUM" digits or "COUNT" text entries. To count you use "Count" or "Counta".

As far as I know, the "SUM" formula can only contain 30 cell references or numbers as arguments. So, what you may want to do, is create two intermediate "sum" cells then a final cell which sums the two intermediate cells.
Intermediate cell 1 =SUM(I3,I7,I11,I15,I19,I23,I27,I31,I35,I39,I43,I47,I51,I55,I59,I63,I67,I71,I75,I79,I87,I91,I95,I99)
Intermediate cell 2 =SUM(I83,I103,I107,I111,I115,I119,I123)
Final cell =<intermediate cell 1> + <intermediate cell 2>
