PAW, could use a little insight.

I have used my search button, and have done research on my own... But, I really would like an HP all-in-one laser printer with dual paper trays. I would be happy with it being just black toner, but the only one I've found is $1,000. And it's color (HP LaserJet 2840), not just mono. Can you or anybody else lend a helping hand. TIA, Cindy

I just purchased an hp 2550L color laserjet this weekend. It did not have the 2nd paper tray, but one can be purchased directly from hp or on ebay. It was 499.00 at Office Depot. Hope that helps.

Thank you, I'll have to look into that one. Staples had 2 different models, but said neither of them offered a second tray. I appreciate it!!!

Re: CinSigns

I also went to Staples. They do have a dual tray color laserjet hp model. It was 699.00 but you can go to hp.com and they offer it with a $100.00 manufacturers rebate. I was going to order that one, but I couldn't wait as my other printer took a nosedive and I had to have something right away. I forget the model number, but I'm sure if you look on their website it will be easy to find. Good luck!

I purchased a HP 8440 from Staples for $600. I comes with one tray, but an additional tray can be purchased from HP. It is an all in one - mono.

What do you want your "all-in-one" to do?

[ ] Scanning : [ ]B&W [ ]Full Color
[ ] Fax
[ ] Copy: [ ]B&W [ ]Full Color
[ ] Print: [ ]B&W [ ]Full Color

[ ] Dual Tray (letter and legal) capable
[ ] High Duty Cycle (more than 10,000 pages per month)

[ ] Priced under $1,000

If you checked all the boxes (on the left side), then I don't know of any HP printers that fit that criteria. You may be able to find a refurbished unit or used one in good shape for a lot less than the suggested retail price.

I had a feeling you were going to tell me that!!! I should tell HP a thing or two about filling that niche. LOL!!! Do you have any other ideas for me? I need a fax, and laser printer---and I figure if I need those, I should just get the all-in-one. I also don't really want to take up more space than is necessary (for eg. more machines than are necessary). Any suggestions? Or should I just go to something like the Brother 5-in-1 or 4-in-1??? I really want an HP though...humpf. I appreciate your and everyone else's input.
Thanks again, Cindy

>>> I had a feeling you were going to tell me that!!! <<< LOL Smiley

Yes, I too think there is a missing niche that needs to be filled. However, I do have a solution. I have two laser printers: HP Laserjet 3330mfp and HP Laserjet 1300. The mfp only has a single paper source but handles everything else. The 1300 doesn't do anything but print, but has two paper sources. This provides a backup for printing when necessary. Also, by printing docs on the 1300, if they are slow to print (PDF image files, arghhhhh!), as they print out, I can then simply copy them on the 3330.

Just for the record, I typically don't received or send faxes with the 3330 as I use WinFax Pro. However, the 3330 is set up to receive the faxes in case WinFax doesn't. (I also have a dedicated fax line.) Additionally, I have an inkjet all-in-one with fax capability in case I can't fax with WinFax and the 3330.

So, my suggestion would be to find a 3330 and 1300, refurbished or on the secondary market, or purchase the replacement models: 3380 and 1320tn models, respectively.

Two sources which might prove a bit less expensive than Office Depot on the same model that Charles in CA talked about, since Office Depot does not include the printer cable.

TigerDirect.com is an excellent resource for computers, peripherals, toner, inkjet cartridges, etc. They currently are selling the HP 1320tn and included printer cable for $599.99 with a $50 rebate before 7/31/05. They ship quickly and I've enjoyed working with them. But they do charge shipping, which to my home would be $51.26.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1115747&sku=H24-Q5930A

Amazon.com might be cheaper, since then do not charge shipping anywhere in the lower 48. They sell the unit new for $633.99 with the printer cable, also with a $50 rebate before 7/31/05.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0002UM0MY/qid=1120001135/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_ur_1/104-7729333-6493547?v=glance&s=pc&n=507846

Be sure to check shipping charges with both AND print the rebate forms off the site AS you place order -- the forms frequently disappear after the rebate expires. And please be sure it's the model you want -- Amazon.com can be verrrrry expensive to return things to (unless there is a defect in the item). I don't know Tiger Direct's return policy.

Happy shopping!

I recently purchased the 1320tn directly from HP. Got 10% off, free shipping and while they charge tax for my state, many states shipped to are without tax. Also, There is a $50 rebate in effect right now as everyone has said. You can get the form on the HP website. (If you purchase the 3year next day exchange warranty you can get an extra $10 rebate).

By the way, I love the printer. I also have a HP 1220 but needed the second tray.
