Photo ID's

Are we required to obtain a copy of the borrower's ID(s)?

If so, what if the lender did not specify whether they wanted it or not?

You only need to obtain one when the lender or SS request one.

I always request it when confirming the appointment - just to be onthe safe side.

Agree that you only obtain them when asked. There are some lenders that specifically do NOT want a copy, just the ID form completed.

I especially liked a recent job where the Title Co wanted an ID form completed and expressly stated "Do Not Enclose a Copy of ID", and another sheet requested copies of ID for the SS.
