Question

I had a closing last night and looked through my closing docs, not til I reviewed the borrowers copy did I see instructions for blue instead of black ink. day late and maybe a dollar short. What are the repercussions? Thanks for any help (newbie)

I think they do that so they can easily distinguish copies from originals. I'd just call the SS and tell them and see what they say. I had a borrower switch colors in the middle of a signing when I was paying more attention to her three year old jumping around on the table. I called and they said no prob.

I've done the exact same thing before, kicking myself in the butt for not reading the closing instructions. I wouldn't say anything - if blue ink is really important they will either call you or may never use you again. Can't worry about it now - nothing you can do at this point. If an out-of-state title company, maybe they'll just think it's illegal to use blue in your state or ? who knows. I'd leave it alone and make a note in your journal.

I respectfully disagree. If he knows he made a mistake, he should call before sending the docs back. If they are adamant about it he can make it up today and get it back. I think a little PR goes a long way and may also save him with the company and his fee, instead of just throwing it out there knowing there's a mistake.

Angelina: (completely, unashamedly OT)

I'm sure that I'm the only one...but whenever I see your name, I instantly get that tinkly piano song from 'Angelina Ballerina' stuck in my head! :-)

Re: Well Missy...

I'm not exactly angelic or a ballerina but anything's better than my old neighbor who used to see me and start singing 'Do you want a Pearl Necklace' .... I think it's a ZZ Top song. Whatever it was it sure made me turn around and go back in the house.

Re: Well Missy...

Yeah, that sounds pretty icky. The only thing that I can think of for me is that 'sweet melissa' song....Barry Manilow???

As long as you have no problem with your name being forever linked in my mind to squeaky mouse voices... ;-)

You'd probably have to have a little girl to relate: www.angelinaballerina.com

Re: Well Missy...

I can handle mouse voices. I have all boys in my house so we are more of a "Bob the Builder' kind of place. Sweet Melissa isn't bad. Gotta love Barry...

I've always been the first to take the blame for my mistake -- just throw it right out there, although I've never been good at taking the blame for something I didn't do. When you try to hide something, that's when you just dig the hole deeper and deeper.

It was probalbly a Quicken loan. They require blue. I didn't do it and used state law the I relealized that only mine has to be Black. IThey didn't say anything to me and didn't doc any pay. I just changed to blue from then on. Still get loan closings.

OOPS

At NNA I put out a suggestion of putting a "Bllue X" where bwrs are to sign
Usually solves blue vs black ? and also shows bwr where thery are to sign
If they stare at page, you may not know if they are reading or trying to figure out where they are supposed to sign
NNA frowns on practice, but I find that it works for me. Never had an objections from a lender , titlle co , Ss, etc.
It is a good idea to "fess up" before sending docs back
