Starting trouble

It truly warms my hear to see that the NNA is so committed to fulfilling their "non-profit" charter as an educational organization.
They have 227 classes scheduled between now and the end of October and NO, that is not nationwide it is just in California.

Dose that mean they have been approved by the state in regards to the new law?

Their new brochure claims they are.

Yes, they are. I received their magazine yesterday and they had an article about it. They offer the classes, but now the test is administered at a different site on a specific day. The proctors will no longer be going to the class sight to administer the test at the end of the class. They will be scheduled at a different time and the prospective notary has to take an additional day and take the test.

Curiosity Questions ...

Does the new brochure state that, although the classes are approved, the participants will have to take the test on a different day at a possible different location?

Does the NNA class fee include the exam fee - Or is that a whole 'nother application and fee to the NNA?

Re: Curiosity Questions ...

the fee for taking the test has never been paid to the NNA. It has always been paid to CPS
which is the organization that gives the test for the state of Calif. The fee was $40.00 the 2 times I have renewed.
It is a very good thing that the test wont be taken right after the class as the NNA class only
covers passing the test and now the new notaries will have to really study and retain the
information.

Re: Curiosity Questions ...

What good is the class if it only covers "passing the test"
I thought the object was to take a class to make sure you are up on the laws and procedures?

CPS is currently still going to the classes, be it the NNA or some other company, to administer the test. They will cease the practice on July 1, 2005, which coincides with the effective date of the new education requirement.

Actually, CPS has changed their minds again. They will be administering the Exams immediately following classes given by approved vendors for the mandatory education.

The list is growing.

Yes, but it is a tempory decision. They(CPS) will be meeting with the SOS next week to further review the decision. Personally, I hope that they discontinue giving the test after the classes, if people have to actually remember the info they are given for a few days, maybe we can stop getting the "What is the difference between a jurat and an acknowledgement?" questions that are asked almost daily on this board.
