Three times a charm

Had three signings today, last appt was 9:00PM (3x3), got to borrowers home and was asked if I could wait b/c they needed to start dinner. Reason being, Mr. B started the BBQ burner late (6 o'clock) and his ribs have to cook for 3 hours. This is Mr. B's very first time smoking ribs in his brand spankin new smoker he just got for fathers day. Instead of waiting in the car, they insisted I joint them for a feast of hickory smoke baby back ribs...Yummy yumm...It was tender, juicy, and delicious for a first timer.

Munching ribs and socializing, Mrs. B is a volunteer coordinator for the boys-girls soccer club. They had just moved into a new building and is in need of some inexpensive office equipments with a budget of $3000 from donations. Keep talking Mrs. B because I buy-refurbish-sell commercial off leased and surplus equipments as a hobby. No signing on Sunday but I'll be busy working up a $3K proprosal for Mrs. B to sign.

Gotta say, I LOVE THIS JOB!

Umm, you've may have crossed the line.

Many signing services (etc.) have explicit rules against doing any other business with a borrower. Some say "solicit". Don't know what your client's rules say, of course.

Maybe if, over the ribs, Mrs. B said to you "Do you know anyone who ...?", then you'd be OK.

How about other opinions here, folks?

Same thought crossed my mind Ernest. Common sense would tell me to 'approach with caution' but if there's no obvious conflict of interest or notary impartiality, or breaking the SS policies, I think it's up to the individual SA's judgment.

Re: Umm, you've may have crossed the line.

It sounds like they got to chatting and the borrower mentioned it otherwise the SA wouldn't have had any knowledge about it. The conversation had nothing to do with the signing, did not occur during the signing, had no conflict with the future borrowing from the lender, and no conflict with impartiality.

My only suggestion is that since the funds came from donations giving them a discount like a couple percent off and call it your donation. It's still business you would not have had otherwise.

Re: Umm, you've may have crossed the line.

I know my post sounded like I just hit a jackpot, but it was more about the coincidental #3's. The fact I love this job is because I like to meet people with a give back to the community mentality. Did I cross the line? I would careless. It was all for the ribs because I couldn't help when Mrs. B wished there be more donation money.

I can get Mrs. B an HP8100DN, HP4500N printer, four P4 desktop computers and 3 laptops for $3K. My profit....a deed from the random act of kindness.
