WILL I WHAT????..... ROFL!!!!
Just got a call for tonight. Appointment is 13 miles away from my house. I didn't even talk about my fee. After letting the guy know I had the "time" to do the signing tonight he says there's just one little thing. The docs are dated May 25 "Will you work with us on this?"
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL
Will "I" backdate my signing date to "help out" a perfect stranger and risk criminal prosecution????? OF COURSE! I'd be happy too!!!
He's gonna call me back after talking to his supervisor.

If I had specifics about the particular file/property/borrower they were calling on, reporting them would be an option, but I don't. This is the first time I've been asked to do something that was illegal. Just cracked me up that someone had the nerve to ask.

LOL at least you know that is your option. The SS I have been dealing with thinks I would be the one to get in trouble for refusing their illegal requests!

Do you have caller ID on your phone? Call the number back and get the name of the company. Or better yet, take the number and do a reverse search on INFOBEL.COM and get their full name, address, phone, fax, website... etc.... if it is listed... which if it is a real SS or TC it should be.

Sorry, but it won't be the last!

It sounds what just happened to me. What I can't believe is that this is a person supposedly with 12+yrs of experience! They are asking more and more for notaries to do illegal stuff. Of course, it is not them who would loose their appointment.

I had that happen to me just this Tuesday. Behind continuous postpones very gingerly it was suggested that I use the same docs that I'd printed on Saturday but the closing postponed again. Be careful! Some come right out and ask you to do something illegal while others try to sneak it in on you. As an independent contractor you are in control not the signing companies, title companies , or the lenders.

In all honesty
When I was commissioned in NJ and worked for attorneys it would have been a lot harder to say NO to backdating docs. If one of the attorneys TOLD ME to backdate I probably would have complied. There was a Boss - Employee relationship there. Thank God they didn't ask.
Now, I'm the boss and the word "no" just rolled off my tongue today without a problem. I like that feeling.

Re: WILL I WHAT????....Is that your FINAL answer?
I was asked to do a closing, edocs, was told what town, my fee was agreed upon and then the "guy" said "Oh, there is just one little thing here that I'm sure you'll work with us on. The docs are dated for 2 days ago and I know you can handle that for us, can't you?" I said "NO I'm sorry I can't. It's illegal to back date and I refuse to do it". This "guy" just said "O.K. thanks" and hangs up. The bad part of it is that I know someone probably did do it for him.
