Warning! Cingular network DOWN!

We could not get any calls in or out on our Cingular cells. We just spent 15 minutes on our landline on hold, only to be told there is a network outage. There is no estimated time until repair. Calls to our cell numbers get busy signals, NOT voicemail!

I been doing signings for the past six months. But I had to get a new cell, with verizon, since I still have
a cingular which is terrible. For all of you that cingular, and expcecting calls for signings, get rid of cingular and
get verizon, I never loose calls with them.

I switched to Verizon a couple of months ago and have been less than impressed with the service. It drops way more calls than it should. I found Sprint to be a much better carrier.

Cingular network is up, but for how long?

The comments (so far) seem consistently "The grass is greener on my side of the fence." Nobody who has been with one company for a few years loves their carrier. People say "I switched from x to y and they're better, cheaper, have fewer dropped calls, have more cells, et cetera."

The same seems to be true of Internet Service Providers, alas. People who switch seem to keep switching. Cable to DSL, and DSL to cable.

(sigh)

Why I left Cingular (makes top 10 stupid technician answers)

After eight years of intermittent/bad service (I'm slow), this Customer Service Technician response was the last straw:

Problem: EVERY TIME I am on the FDR Drive in New York City during rush hour outside Manhattan my cell phone doesn't work (attempting to call daughter to say where I am and get down on the street because there's no parking where she lives). My daughter's Verizon phone does work in the EXACT same locations (we try both in same areas). Cell phone also doesn't work in Manhattan.

The last straw answer from Cingular Technician: The next time this happens, pull your car over to the side of the highway and find a land line. Call us from the land line, report where you are and the problem. Within 24 hours a technican will look into the problem and call you back with an explanation on why your phone isn't working. HA! HA! Any New Yorkers want to park their car on the side of FDR Drive at 5:30 pm the Wednesday before Thanksgiving during a holiday rush hour and a Manhattan grid lock alert?

Second best Cingular answer: The reason your cell phone doesn't work in Manhattan is that cell phones don't get reception when there are a lot of tall buildings around you. I thought New Yorkers were crazy: they are all walking around PRETENDING to talk on their cell phones, which don't really work because NY has too many tall buildings.

If I still had to deal with Cingular I'd jump off one of those tall buildings.

Re: Why I left Cingular...T Mobile is my best...

I have Sprint & T Mobile.

T Mobile
3000 Min Anytime / mo - $49.00 w/ TM regional callling plan...never drops my calls. (Regional means Texas and all states touching Texas)

Sprint
1100 Min Anytime plus Free nights/weekends after 7 pm / mo - $89.00 w/ Sprint - national calling plan - drops me all the time. Another year and it's good-bye sprint, hello someone else.

CHL and two cell phones for regions that are rural insure my safety in the event I have a dead zone in my coverage out on the backroads. What Sprint misses/T Moble catches/vice versa = never without coverage on the road.

Re: Why I left Cingular...T Mobile is my best...

Been with ATT for about 10 years now- of course they are Cingular now-

Haven't had any down time with them here at all- and not yesterday either.

Guess I am a happy camper with them, " so far so good".

Re: Why I left Cingular...T Mobile is my best...

Me too. I had AT&T for 10 years and never had a problem. So far my Cingular phone has been great. A friend of mine has T-moble and we went to west palm beach yesterday and he had to use my phone to call his wife. He had no reception.. I am happy with them..Good luck to all!!!
