What is essential...

for me to get started? I am brand new and have no idea what i should have immediately to get started? Or should I just begin signing up with companies and worry about essentials later??? EDocs have me at a loss also; I don't know what I need to be able to accept them...??? Please help. Thank you.

I'm upstate, right outside of Rochester, a town called Ontario. 3 miles from Lake Ontario.
