c'mon guys!

Please, please stop accepting such low fees here! This is the third time this week that an SS wanted me to do signings below what I charge. Today being the third time....$75. for overnight, the next county over "a very large pkg with several faxs back"
You SAs that take these jobs after they tell me they'll have to get approval or making it harder to rise above these petty fees. I don't carry a bond and E&O insurance, pay for my supplies apply with every SS I can find, file taxes and hire sitters to pussyfoot around with a minimun wage job!
Stop that and let them call back the quality SAs...you know you can be one if you stop allowing yourself to be taken advantage of!!! Arghhhh

Anything is fair

With the current state of matters (higher rates, less signings), get what you are comfortable with...these paper schuffling gigs just arent worth as much as some of the more pompous people on here think they (as to both the assignments and themselves) are. $40 is more than fair.

right maggie...I responded quickly

just to let others know, that his post doesn't warrant a reply, as usual...I'm just ticked because there are so many unqualified SAs whom think so little of themselves and this business that they'll take what they can get. I figure it's because less and less companies are calling them after we clean up their colossal F.Ups....

I know all about you!

Let me see.... I used to do profiling so lets see how rusty I am.

between 25 and 35. You are not satisfied with your life and you float from one big idea to the next. You don't have a lot of friends and you are never invited to card night, BBQ's or super bowl parties. Everytime you meet new people you are worried of what they think of you and then you judge them immediately. Probably don't get l**d very much because you are slightly overweight and don't think much of yourself. Took a wrong turn after high school, definately didn't go to college and it has been a catch up game ever since. You think you are smart and definately want others to think so but probably claim you don't care what people think. You are not an only child and probably spend a lot of time on an emotional roller coaster of your own making that goes from ... really really motivated and positive, listening to your Tony Robbins tapes and feeling like you can conquer the world... to days on the couch with the chips and dip in front of the TV that culminates in yet again.. more feelings of unworthiness. So you use this anonymous method to try to boost your meager ego and get out your frustrations of not sticking to anything that will get you out of the muck that is your life. Here's a tip. Get up early... work out at least 5 days a week... have pride in what you do and in yourself... be nice to people... it is better to give than to receive... plan your own BBQ's and don't skimp on the cheap dip.

How did I do?

Person urging $40 signings exposed as an SS

Below is the info on Deth who posted that we NSAs should be happy to take $40 or less.

He/She/It works for Road Runner, an SS.

Heck with them!!!

Re: Person urging $40 signings exposed as an SS - Melody

Road Runner is the ISP, that IP number is Road Runner's, it is not a signing service name (not saying the poster isn't from a signing service, just that the IP number is for Road Runner ISP)

"Allocations for this OrgID serve Road Runner commercial customers out of the Austin, TX and Tampa Bay, FL RDCs."

But the poster is using the Tampa Bay, Fl Road Runner service.

Re: Person urging $40 signings exposed as an SS

Road Runner is not an SS, but a broadband ISP (Time-Warner Cable / BrightHouse Networks). That particular IP address is allocated to a commercial account in the Tampa Bay area.

I cannot comment any further on the use (er... abuse) of this address, other than to say it is being investigated.

Re: I've been offered alot less....

What do you normally charge for overnight docs? How far is one county over 20 miles? Sound fair if they offered you $75.00. I wouldn't do it for less than that!!!

Re: I've been offered alot less....

my fees vary by county/zip...This is fine for O.N. less than 20 miles...but they warned me that it was a "very large pkg with several fax backs"...I asked for another $15. for the HASSLE of all these fax backs to different people. It would require an extra hour of my time. I'm not a trainee and don't need to prove to three people in three different departments, two different numbers with 30+ faxes that I know what I'm doing without an extra fee.

Re: I've been offered alot less....

30 faxes is a little much, I have never heard of anyone requesting that much!
You said you turned down 3 @ 75.00 or less at least you know your phone is still ringing.
I'm sure you will get what your worth soon.

Re: I've been offered alot less....

you'll see it when you do a large pkg where just about everything is notarized and hour and a half at the borrowers, not to mention going thru everything again before you leave there and double checking at home.... and then you have to fax back everything that was notarized. I did it once, no more for 50 or 75 buckarooes Smiley

Re: I've been offered alot less....

$75 edocs and 40 miles round trip is no where near fair or reasonable. As long as people accept these fees, SSs will continue lowering their rates.

Re: One county over ...

Amen sister.

I used to have a set price for the next county over/two over, but I found that going to one little town can either be a short trip (38 mi), or a longer trip (70 mi). Sometimes in rural areas, the town name means notta.

I have to mapquest every addy to make sure I am not over/under charging. I quote high if I am unable to look at my charge...I have been known to go down on the fee after the signing, but I finally learned not to cut myself too much on long trips out of town.

Re: One county over ...

True...one county over doesn't mean as much to the SS from another state...it would have been quite a drive. I hate having to turn down work for the fee when I'm available

Is it possible that the company found someone a lot closer - in the same area as the borrower, where $75 would be an acceptable fee?

Reply by Charm_AL on 6/1/05 5:39pm

yes Sylvia...that is very possible. At that case, I guess the fee would be acceptable.

Usually, I get the call because they have tried the places 40 miles away and there is no one. Sometimes they even shop their options to rural title companies to see what they charge.

Rural TCs seem to charge $250.00 fairly consistently.

Reply by CarolynCO on 6/2/05 8:27am

Even if it was within a reasonable distance, $75 still wouldn't be acceptable with 30 some faxbacks, IMO.

Reply by HisHughness on 6/2/05 2:52pm

I don't do faxbacks. My fax cover sheet provides a checkoff spot for faxing back the HUD, and the first and signature page of the mortgage. Any faxback request beyond that, the company has two alternatives: Forget the faxbacks and trust my expertise, or pay me more.

The problem with faxbacks is that the requirement is often never revealed up front; it is included in the document package. If it is in the confirmation, I call immediately and tell them I won't do it, to give them the opportunity to find someone else. If it is in the document package, I note my expectations with respect to faxbacks in my confirmation of closing. Sometimes I'm told to go ahead, sometimes I'm told the lender/title company requires them, and they'll have to find another notary.

I enjoy my work. At my age, I'm entitled to enjoy my work; even surly old men need enjoyment. I don't enjoy my work if it involves watching a fax machine.

Re: c'mon guys! - enjoy your work

**I enjoy my work. At my age, I'm entitled to enjoy my work;**

At ANY age you should do work you enjoy. Back in my retail days, whenever I had a new hire I'd remind them that they will spend more of their waking hours with our staff than with their own families - so they better like what they do.

Huummm - maybe this is why we are all NSAs - we are alone most of the time Smiley
