need advise
Hello! I am a new notary and I have a question about getting business from these signing companies. How long does it take to start getting regular business? I have gotten a couple of signings from one company but I haven't gotten any other calls. It has been a month since I started nd I have done 6 signings. Should I call these companies? Should I wait by the phone? How long does it take for a steady flow to start? Does the my location have anything to do with how many signings are available? I would truly appreciate some constructive advise!! Thanks a Bunch

Keep signing up!
With as many SS as you can possibly find. It takes time to get business on a regular business. If you haven't already, invest in the Premiere Membership here at Notary Rotary. I get business all the time based on that from SS and TC I have not signed up with. Also, consider memberships with GoMobileNotary.com and 123Notary.com. They are similar sites to this one.

I red in this board that it could take like 18 months to have a constant flow of signings to make a decent living. So can you wait all that long?
Thank you.

I can wait. I dont expect to be able to be rich, but I was just wondering how long it would take for me to have my phone ring for a job twice a week, maybe three. I am doing it for extra money. I wasn't sure if buying memberships would work but I'll try it thanks for the advise. I know my area has a bunch of notaries so I wasn't sure if calling would help.

Ouch, the spelling...i.e., need "advise" should be "advice". I "red" should be "read", etc. Ouch!

Don't wait for them to call you. Call them to follow up on your application package. HOWEVER, don't do it this week! UGH! We're coming up on the last signing day of the month for refinances and they are very very busy!
Good Luck to you. FYI - search, search, search, this message board and others for answers to questions that may arise before you ask them.

Terri, were you my instructor that teached the notaryclasses @ Ontario back in Dec 11, 2004?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who goes nuts over spelling errors. "Teached" just about did me in!

Re: Im sorry, Englis...My experience
I have been doing signings almost 4 years & from what I can remember....... after signing up with many companies, I started getting a steady flow of calls 2-4 months after submitting all of the paperwork to companies; by 6 months had to turn down assignments because I was completely booked. Now I refer signings I can't take to Signing Agents whom I know. (I know their work & I know it's a good referral.) So, 2-4 months for a steady flow of calls; however, times were different 4 years ago....much more work available.
Good luck & hang in there.
*** It will happen all of a sudden - you'll start to receive more & more calls - you won't have time to think about the slow times.
I am a very positive person - so hand in there.
Stephanie

tnotary: I'm in the same boat. I have been doing signings for a while, but, only for friends and stray callers. I only recently started calling signing services. I have done a few signings for approximately 4 companies. I too would be happy with 2 to 3 signings a week. My busiest week thus far has been 4, but I realize that is not at all an average and it was end-of-month. I have also begun advertising locally, created my own website <notaryrunner.com>, and have sent out/delevered flyers to local Realtors/Lenders/Title companies. My local advertising is promoting business that matches the volume I am currently getting from signing services.
Some advise that I offer is no matter how eager you are to get signing service business, read their terms and conditions carefully. Don't be afraid to say no to some of these companies that have onerous and inflexible contracts. Particularly watch out for terms that offer no compensation concerning eDocs, or 2nd-set copies for the borrower. I have received Loan packages where the Closing Instructions required complete 2nd-set copies for the borrower. I didn't go any further until the signing company or the Title company added compensation to the final rate.
As has been pointed out, there are hundreds of these companies and many are unscroupulous, even sneaky. I'd rather work for only 10 signing companies that pay fairly and on time, then be called by a hundred companies that I have to scrutinize every time they call, or, have to chase after for my money. Ethics aside, I just don't have the time for it.
Hope it helps.
