1st signing tomorrow! Any tips?! :)

Im doing my first signing tomorrow, its a refi. Its for a friend of a friend so I'm giving them a pretty good rate. Also they are paying me themselves, I dont have to go through their escrow or anything! I'm not too nervous. I've read some other threads about first time signings, tips included ; take your time, relax check every page carefully for where they need to initial or sign and double check every page to make sure you got everything. Anyone else have any thing to add ?More tips would be great! Thanks in advance!

Just be calm it's a friend of a friend so they probably know it's your first time so they should understand.

Above all have confidence in your self.

I just want to give you a little more tips
first you should label everything that needs to be initial or signed with the sign here stickers, make sure you have to copies, keep all papers in order, read your instructions. Another thing do not start out giving deals the rates for signings are 125.00 and up. you may visit a few websites for some help as far as your signing because relaxing and all of that is ok but it is much more to it than just having them sign. Visit www.webspawner.com/users/dunbar01 and www.webspawner.com/users/dunbar02, 50statenotary, and 123notary.

good luck on your first signing

Beg to differ...

Title companies do pay higher rates, but if you are just starting out, you need to get some solid experience under your belt before attempting to work with them, as they tend to be rather unforgiving. There are dozens of signing companies on this site and others to start off with, and there is nothing wrong with doing $50 signings to get some experience. There's also an excellent training guide available at www.thesigningregistry.com.

Always remember you're a notary first and a signing agent second. Good luck.

It Went Well !

Thanks for the tips everyone!

Escrow had already marked the pages that needed to be signed and notarized, so this was a really easy job. I gave these people a good price because they're friends of friends. More than $50 less than $100. The whole thing took about 45 min. I kept everything in order and it all went very well.

Re: Beg to differ...

But PAW, that's another $85 for a training manual (not that it is not worth it) but Signing Registry wants one to give proof of 12 completed signings to join with them.
So back to square one. A new SA may still be trying to be sent out on their first signing. I have only done eight so far so I don't qualify yet.

Re: Beg to differ...

Merry said, "...but Signing Registry wants one to give proof of 12 completed signings to join with them."

Sorry, Merry, but you must have misread the information. Anyone can join the Registry, however to be listed in the SA database, proof of 12 signings must be provided.

From the SR website:

Members do not have to be experienced in loan signing to join the SR.

In addition, it is not necessary for members to have their Notary commission in order to join the SR.

Once becoming a member, the SR requires members to obtain their notary commission and submit proof within 30 days of membership. Memberships will be cancelled without proof of a Licensed Notary Commission within 30 days of membership.

In order to list a member profile page in our Signing Agent Database, all members are required to:

1. Take the Basic Skills Exam (BSE) and pass with a minimum score of 80%.

2. Submit proof of a minimum of 12 individual loan signings as confirmation of experience.

Members may submit proof of 12 signings via work/order confirmations, Signing Agent Service Log, or by listing company names and dates of signings.

Re: Beg to differ...

Sorry, PAW... I meant to join the Signing Agent Database and be called for assignments.
One still needs to get those first 12 assignments elsewhere.

Re: Beg to differ...

SR is a group of professional signing agents, not a signing service. Well worth the money IMHO.

Brenda...
I'm still confused.
Is SR a professional trade organization?
Do they provide any SS function?

Re: Beg to differ...

Let me expand a bit on Brenda's response. No, the SR is not an SS however, the Registry is advertised to companies offering "experienced" and professional signing agents. It doesn't function as a signing service for those companies, only as a center of excellence for the companies to tap in to.

The intent of the Registry is for education and a professional association for signing agents to grow. That's one reason that membership is "closed" so as to allow for the frank and honest exchange of the membership.

I dare say that most active SR members are also members of NotRot and frequent other venues as well.

It's an easy mistake to make on their website - the way the fonts are done, it draws attention to the need for 12 signings under your belt - but that's to get listed in their directory Smiley
