Am I ready to start my bussiness???
Hello all, I passed my notary exam about a year ago and I am certified with the NNA. I have a listing with over 300 companies but, I am currently registered with 30. I have completed over 12 successful signing. I have spent the last few months trying to accomplish the following: Move and set up a home office, I have the computer w/DSL, the fax, the laser printer and the van is finally up and running. I even thought about filing a fictitious business name. Along with a small web page.
I think I am ready to registrar with the rest of the companies. What I would like to know is.
What companies to shy away from?
Is a fictitious business name a good thing? To look more professional? I really don’t want to just use my name.
When I get a call and the company has a same day signing in an hour or two and they want you to print out the docs, and they say they only pay $100.00. Should I take it or ask for more. I took it in the pass should I ask for more in the future?
And is E.fax even necessary? Any response to these questions and or advice would greatly be appreciated!!!

Re: Am I ready to start my business???
I don't usually respond to anonymous posts, but if you've only completed 12 signings, you may not want to give up your day job just yet. The rest of your questions can be answered by reading the past posts in this forum. In the future, you'll get more response by using your name/state.

Re: Am I ready to start my business???
Thank you for that advice. I will use my name in the future! The reason why I have only done 12 is because I have turn down a lot of offers because car was not working or I had other plans ( No I didn't tell the companies that. I told them I was booked for the evening. Thanks for calling me Plaese feel free to call me again. and when they do I take the assignment). I am good with the signings I do but I just wanted to have evrything ready 1st before I go promting my self. Thanks again for your response and advice.

1. Post a name/state to get better responses. 2. Good Luck 3.Register with everyone. 4. Do a search using key word "avoid" also key work "no no" 5. Read this board regularly as well as gomobilenotary.com If you didn't know how to find companies to avoid, you haven't been reading regularly. 6. A business name is not necessary but, if you want to, go for it. Will cost you a few bucks a year. Note, be careful with the email address you have. If you have a name like [e-mail address] it's not too professional. 7. You fee structure is up to you. This board has given a plethoria of answers and suggestions. The state your in can matter as well as how far to travel to do the signing. Off hand, your low -( 75 base, 25 second 50 e docs = $150 ) 8. E-fax (or maxefax.com) is up to you. I find it useful. I can save all my assignments on my computer. I change the name of the file to the form name date ie. Jones 3-4-05. Lets me retrieve info. If you try and run a phone, fax and answering machine off 1 line it can be a pain. With the faxes going to my computer, I can read them anywhere.
