Charging Seniors in Retirement Homes
I was able to make good on an earlier missed cell call from a large senior citizen community (55 +). I am wondering if any of you offer a discount. I was going to charge $35.00 (travel+notary fee), then I got to thinking that perhaps since this particular woman was on a fixed income, was it fair to her? Any input is appreciated (making up a statement this evening).

Yes, I give them a real break. But consider the fact they will give you 2 candy bars or cookies as a thank you that makes it all seems worthwhile. I never charge them mileage and normally just a $5 fee which includes mailing their package. Seeing them smile and be so thankful makes it all worthwhile, at least to me.

Re: Charging Seniors in Retirement Homes-Son will pay
Amongst the paperwork was a note to the Home director that he would pay for the service.

Seniors in Retirement Homes, people in hospitals, ...
... any people unable to get to a notary due to health. Here's my full story:
Several years ago when my mother was sliding toward her final illness, she needed a document notarized. I called a Realtor who had lived during her childhood a few doors away and asked if she'd do the notarization. She came to the house, chatted, did the affidavit, chatted, and left. She refused all payment.
Now when I do any notary work for anyone, the last thing I do is tell about her kind act. I say, "I'm repaying Betsy Gibson's kindness. If you know anyone who is in a hospital, or otherwise shut in, I will go to them at no charge."
It's up to each of us. As for me, the NSA signings pay well enough that I can afford to give back to community.

I try to avoid it if possible. I'm just not good in those situations. I try to help in other areas.

So far (knock on wood) I've been able to keep my act together until I was safely in my car. After that, any passerby can believe what they want.

Question regarding connecting
I think what everyone is saying about helping people who ill or unable to get out is fantastic, my hat is off to you all.
Your good deeds raise a question, how do you offer yourself to those in need? I would love to emulate the kindness I am reading about, but not sure how to approach those who would most benefit. By the by, what sorts of documents are you notarizing in general for people in rest homes?
Thank you.

One way to make offers
I've sent letters stating approximately what I posted here about Betsy doing a favor for my family. If I'm in the neighborhood of a convelescent hospital, etc., I'll stop in at the administrative office. I've also sent letters to churches, synagogues, etc. The staff were I worship all know of my offer.
I'm not looking for praise here. And I'm not saying you won't be heartbroken by some things you see.
