GPS options

I have been looking at different options for a GPS system and have found a couple of programs that run on your laptop with a GPS receiver that attaches via a USB port.

Has anyone used this type of GPS and was/is the experience good or bad? The cost difference is significant from a stand alone GPS system. The two programs I found are MS Streets & Tips, and DeLorme Street Atlas.

I have MS Streets and I love it. It has paid for itself many times over. I have to find vacant foreclosed properties and I have no one to call to find it.

Do you use the GPS receiver with the program or just the program by itself?

I use the GPS with the program in my car and I just use the program to print driving instructions on my home computer
