Great Lakes Notary

Last week I received a call from Great Lakes Notary asking me to take a look at their website. I told the gal that I would.

Of course I read the threads below and was well aware that they are on this marketing kick and I am not about to pay $49 to a SS who apparently has problems fulfilling their financial obligations.

This afternoon as I am printing away docs.... I receive another call from them asking me if I would register with them. I kinda bluffed it off and said something like "I'm not sure that I want to be signed up with a company I don't kow much about". The gal then said "Did you look at the site? Did you see how much we are going to do for you?"

That took it a little far.... I said "and it's only $49?" "I'll go for it, sign me up -- and take $10 off of the next five assignments you send me over $100 - that should cover the cost"..... the gal was lost for words and I was too -- LOL

They use to pay better. The last time they called me I refused. They wanted to pay 75 for e-docs but the scheduler said she could send me alot of business. I declined.

Yeah, they tried the same thing with me. I told them something similar: "I'll gladly let you take the fee out of the first signing you give me, but I won't pay in advance." She said she'd let them know. :-)

Upon closer review of their site, they're charging notaries $49/yr to be listed and SS/Title $69/yr to join.

They're an SS. They're charging you a fee to be in their DB so that they can call you for signings.

Title is not going to pay $69/yr to search for a notary when NNA, 123notary, Notary Rotary, GMN, etc. is available without a fee.

And for those Title Co that do sign up and search for a notary, what's to say that the request won't be routed through Great Lakes, who will take their cut of the notaries fee?

This seems like a bad deal all the way around. Shame on those who victimize the workers.
