Hp1300 Printer Problem

Can someone please help me?? I had a problem Saturday printing a pdf doc file, got an error message, ignored it, and didn't know that only 3/4 of the docs had printed. Didn't fnd out till today when title called me asking what happened to the rest of the docs. Of course I had no idea!

Had to go back to sign rest of docs, and when I tried to print them got the same error, and sure enough stopped printing in the same place. Finally printed 1/2 at a time, and that worked.

Question is: Do I need more memory? (Have never added any), was it a doc problem or what? I sure don't want to go there again!! If I do need more memory how do I add it and where do I get it? By the way, the file was only 531 kilobytes.

Thanks to all!

It could very well have been a memory issue. Printing ½ at a time worked, so memory is suspect. As for the file size, that is almost immaterial since that is the compressed text file size. When it is expanded, it will grow.

What type of file was it? PDF? ELX? ????

Thank you Paul! It was a pdf file. How do I go about upgrading my memory?

Re: How to upgrade memory in the HP LJ 1300 printer

Thank-you Paul. Do I have to order memory directly from HP or can I buy it at a retail store?

HP memory is very, very expensive. Search the internet for cheaper memory that fits.

How can I clear the memory? It shows I have 16 MB, with only 5.6 mg available! Thanks so much.

The following article should explain the reason. It was written against the 3300 series printers, but holds true (relatively) for all HP Laserjets.

I have the same printer and had a similar problem to yours over the weekend (major headache!). In my case it only printed the first 2 pages of the docs and then stopped, all of the lights on the printer lit up (this is referred to as a "fatal error" by HP), and couldn't get anything to print. I thought my printer was done for. I went to Kinkos to print the docs and the same thing happened on their printer. A clerk told me that it was a problem with the pdf file, and that he's seen it happen a lot.

I'm not sure if this is the same problem or not, but I thought maybe it might help. Good luck!

Not all PDFs are created equal.

Some of the software packages that produce PDF files do not follow all of the rules for correctly generating perfect PDF files. Yes, a PDF file can get corrupted in transmission, but it is more likely the PDF generator software that is at fault. (If you don't understand the next sentence, ignore it.) I've used a hex dump and found bad offsets, etc.
