Laser printing toner problem

I have a Brother 4800, the toner has been making the copies look gray and streaked. I replaced the toner cartridge and cleaned the glass and other things the manual said to clean, but it is still doing the same thing. I also cleaned the drum by moving the thingy back and forth. Any suggestions. It will be most appreciated.

Re: Call Brother for support! n/m

I use a Brother DCP-1000 (which BTW is not PCL6 equipped- next will be though)- When the drum needed replacing- I purchased a Generic one on line- works fine- and also use Tonerkit refill yourself toner.

Ever since putting in the generic drum- the message in front - wants to show "Replace Drum Soon" sign- as though it is saying to me- "Hey - You didn't use a new Brothers Drum yet".

But for me the generic drum for about $80 is working fine, since November anyway. (If I would do as suggested and simply read the manual, maybe I can make the idiot light message to go away.)

I do not use the Toner Save Option- because the refill only cost about 7 dollars each- and goes a longggggg waaaayyyyyy!

Are you sure that it is the toner that's causing the problem? I don't have a Brother printer but have an HP. Under properties I have an option as to the quality of printing. If I choose the economy setting (toner saver) the print appears grayish. Maybe you have a similar setting option. Its worth checking.

Thank you for your reply. It isn't the print that is gray, it is toner over the whole page giving a grayish copy.

I have 2 Brother laser printers and have found that the HELP index can be helpful sometimes, try checking in there first.

You stated you have replaced the toner cartridge, is it a Brother cartridge or a knock off? That may make the difference too. I only use Brother OEM parts.

I do refill my cartridges and found the hard way it is very important to vaccum out the toner cartridge before refilling. I ended up with spots and streaks.

Your drum is only good for 30,000 prints then needs to be replaced. If you check in your properties for your Brother printer it should tell you there how many copies have been made and what percentage of use the drum has left. The drum unit is expensive to replace.

Hope this was somewhat helpful to you! BK/FL

The cartridge is a knock off, but I have used the same before without any trouble. I went to Brothers website, I will use the help index. Thanks
