Recovery firms

Does anyone have experience with firms that recover funds that have escheated to the state, and similar recoveries? If so, do you have any idea whether there is any type of central registry or association for such compannies? I'd appreciate an e-mail if you do: [e-mail address].

IMO these places are rip-offs. You can go to state controller or department of revenue websites and find unclaimed property/escheatments without paying them (the recovery fund) a finder's fee. I used to work for an investment firm that escheated quite a bit of money to states. These recovery funds make a killing on unsuspecting consumers. Not a bad racket I guess, but if you were asking based on a personal escheatment I would bypass them and go directly to the state.
