Signing for seller of house, direct hire

Has anyone ever been contacted to notarize loan docs directly from a buyer. I was contacted by someone selling/buying their house without the use of a realator and it was their job to find a notary. The found me on GMN. How do you accept payment from them? If I accept a check is that enough for tax purposes? Just log it as usual in my book I use for taxes? Do I charge them what I do for a SS?
