Hi Joseph ***When you receive the docs overnight, included is an envelope and an airbill already filled in. This makes it very easy since all you have to do is put the docs in the envelope provided, add the airbill and drop off at FedEx, UPS or DHL location...if there isn't one close, some signing agents will use a drop box.
***When docs are recived by way of edocs: The information may be included in the confirmation sheet or it may accompany the loan packet that you will print out. The account number is provided along with the information on where to ship the docs. Generally there is a contact person with a phone number. If you keep a supply of legal sized envelopes along with airbills from the overnight companies, you will have everything to prepare for the return of the docs.
Once you start doing signings you will become accostomed to what overnight services the different companies you work with use & you will be prepared. That was a really long run-on sentence - sorry. If you're prepared things will be easier.

With thanks to Stephanie, I'm stating the obvious ...
... but make sure that you use each company's envelope with its matching airbill. I once saw a customer confuse the driver by using a DHL envelope in a FedEx box!
Always use the legal-size envelope. Never fold the docs into a letter-size envelope.
Speaking only for myself, I try my best to use the same store to drop off all of the docs I have to ship. It's a "Mailboxes, Etc." clone. They give me a receipt with the date and tracking number. I try to avoid using a drop box if at all possible.
Keep with you a list of the dropoff locations in your area AND PICKUP TIMES for each. There is a store in my area that wants extra $$ for a Saturday pickup, even though it is listed with the FedEx 800 number as a Saturday pickup location. Don't fall for it!

1 Penny
I had a package on Friday where the edocs contained a scanned in copy of a computer generated FEDEX label to use. Clever.

With overnighted docs there may be a return envelope, just a shipping label, or (the least) an account number. Do NOT ship anything at your own expense! It is very likely that you would not be reimbursed!

FedEx & UPS envelope is reusable so don't be surprise when there is not an extra envelope in the doc package.

Joseph: You can order enevelopes and airbills from FedEx at 1-800-231-9219. They will set up an acct # for you. You have to give them a credit card number to set it up, but they don't charge anything to it unless you want to ship something on your dollar. After they set up the acct, they put you through to customer service where you order the enevelopes and blank airbills. If you feel you will use UPS as well, you can order from them at 1-800-742-5877 and they do not require an acct. set up. Anyway, just thought I would pass that on. Take care.

Dont forget to write down tracking numbers.
Also, if you receive documents with one of the computer-generated return labels, don't forget to write down the return tracking # on your confirmation page before returning the documents. I always staple my copy of all return tracking slips to my confirmation before filing it. I forgot to write down the tracking # once and the lender refused to pay me for the signing because I didn't have it--never will make that mistake again!!

Re: Dont forget to write down tracking numbers.
Adding on to what Colleen mentioned, once you have your account open with FedEx, you can print out the airbills and it also keeps track of your shipments, you can go back 90 days if there are ever any questions. I keep a stock of FedEx/UPS/DHL Legal size envelopes just in case I do not get one in the package or when I get edocs, they are all free for the asking

Re: Dont forget to write down tracking numbers.
JoJo,
I had a comparable experience. I had one of those return labels. I don't know if I was in a hurry, but when I peeled the label off from its backing the number came off too. I didn't realize it until later on. There was no way I could confirm the signing online without posting the tracking number. Luckily it was not at a drop box but at a fedex kinko's store. So I called up, explained the circumstances and asked them if they could write down the tracking number for me when the pick-up guy came. They did and everything turned out alright.

take the top copy
As a owner of 2 UPS stores, please learn to take the top copy of the waybills. This has the tracking # on it. All UPS stores now have the ability to give you a receipt of when you dropped of the pkg and the trk #. So, if you have a pre-printed label off the internet you can bybass writting the tracking #. I never have a problem with giving people pkgs of UPS air letter envelopes and waybills. I have one traveling notary that I had to show her how to fill one out. These people who charge you to drop off prepaid envelopes should be reported to UPS or FEDX. We actually make $1.10 for each pkg from UPS, not the person dropping one off. Also, learn where to take your pkgs at the airport and what time. It would be helpful for last minute has to get there times. Be carefull not to get run over if you do this. Its crazy at the airport. FedX & UPS are usually located next to eachother at the airport. You could also track your pkgs and point out to the SS that it arrived on time and that you want payment. Hope this helps.

Melissa, a UPS store owner, stated: "These people who charge you to drop off prepaid envelopes should be reported to UPS or FEDX."
We do not have a real UPS or FedEx store nearby. However, we do have an authorized shipping center. I was told that UPS will not provide shipping rebates to them for packages with "bow-ties" (internet shipping) and they are authorized to charge the sender a buck for each UPS package with the "bow-tie" on it. They don't charge the sender for FedEx packages.

Re: take the top copy
They must be getting a kick back from FedX, or they would be charging you a dollar for them too. When they aren't a UPS store they have total control over what they do. You might try another store to drop off at. This is the way I feel about it. I should be nice to you, because you have other reasons to ship. You have friends and family who have birthdays and weddings. Drop off's are free advertising. I can stand there and get to know you personally. Just because one pkg is prepaid doesn't mean all of your business will be. So, tell me how do you feel about doing business with these people when they charge you? For those who do drop off at a UPS store they shouldn't charge you. I only get irritated with the ones who can never figure out how to fill the waybills out on there own and they come in every day.

Re: take the top copy
Yes, FedEx does kick in a buck or so (so I'm told) for their packages. UPS does so, but not for those internet generated labels. I don't know why, but that's what was told to me.
You suggested I go to a different store. Well, the next nearest authorized UPS store is 20 miles away (one way). So that's not really an option and I won't leave them in a drop box. As for charging **me**, they don't, because I provide enough FedEx packages and other services to them. The owners and I have a mutual understanding and a good working relationship. Our businesses complement each other and our arrangement is on a handshake.
As an aside, I have never been charged to drop off a UPS package at a UPS store. Only at "Authorized Shipping Centers".
