The best advice you can get
Start by reading all the posts here. Yes, ALL of them. After you have done that, ask specific questions.
You will get flamed big-time if you don't do your own research before asking such basic questions.

Re: The best advice you can get
Now why would we flame somebody who so politely demands:
"give me all details of starting out i do not want to end up with legal trouble"
After all, somebody who just expects us to create more competition for ourselves AND is going to rely on a public message board to keep himself out of legal trouble, while doing none of the legwork work himself (he obviously couldn't even be bothered to read some of the messages on this board to find the 50,000 other times this has been asked), is somebody who is going to show the theories of Darwin at their finest.

Pebow,
One thing to do if you post again is indicate in the author slot which state you are from (just like I am Ted from MI). That really helps potential responders.
You might want to check out the link up above that says "signing services" and apply to those that are of interest to you. Given your background you probably will have a definite leg up on many others new to the business.
I am sure others would also counsel you to market yourself - sign up with all sorts of reputable signing companies and later on title companies. And definitely become a premier member on this site! it is really worth it!!

Bravo Ted-MI
Thank you Ted for addressing the poster in a civil manner. Unlike the jackass, CaliNotary, who is again showing the negative side to NotaryRotary. I think it makes him feel good though and that is abviously all that matters to him.

Re: Bravo Ted-MI
It looks like you've been posting here for about 6 weeks. Talk to me in 6 months when you've seen this exact same question posted once or twice a day without fail.
The thing that I don't understand is that the people who post this question obviously have the logical skills to figure out that this forum is probably the appropriate place for that question, yet they don't take that extra logical step to think that it probably already HAS been asked, and all they have to do is search for it. Or for this particular question just read the most current page or two of messages and it's bound to be there.
Not to mention, EVERY time a person posts a new message in here the following message appears above the message box, highlighted in yellow:
Important Notice If you are going to ask a question, please consider consulting the Search feature before doing so. Many questions have been asked and answered repeatedly on this forum by expert notaries: Should I buy a laser printer? • What are e-docs? • What is a signing agent? • How much should I charge? • How do I get started? Answers to questions like these are just a few clicks away!
And Ty, if you're going to be so sanctimonious as to thank Ted for addressing the poster in a civil manner, it would really help your credibility if you didn't immediately follow it up with "unlike the jackass, Calinotary". Obviously YOU think it's ok to post in an uncivil manner on this board so why exactly is it wrong for me to do it?
Of course, unlike you, I didn't have to resort to name calling to get my point across. So I guess that would make me the more civil of the two of us. You should try to follow my lead and be a little less negative.

Pebow - From now on, make your computer your best friend and explore. You can find most information by reading forums like Notary Rotary, Signing Registry, etc. By google searching, you can find lots of other forums and where to buy E&O insurance and other pertinent info to this business.
Marketing, books, start-up equipment, companies to avoid, etc.... you can find all these info on this forum alone.
Good luck and have fun!

If you are from TEXAS you dont need to buy E&O Insurance because you are already insured 10,000.00 when you get your commission. Some Signing Services require at least the 10 and some more. It's very inexpensive and worth the coverage.

give me all details of starting out i do not want to end up with legal trouble. ....forgive me, but this sounds a little on the demanding side.
Pebow, We were all new at one time and some of us were more intimidated than others. For me, I started signings slowly, not taking all of the assignments I was receiving until I felt more experienced and confident. Regarding all of the details that you want, you will figure out many of them along the way...what seems monumental now may be "not that big of a deal" once you have gained experience. No one can give you the experience through "all of the details", this is something you must do for yourself, and if you are your own advocate for learning, I think you will be successful.
