ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT CRESPA FROM THE VIRGINIA BAR ASSOCIATION? IT IS NEEDED IF YOU WANT TO DO LOAN DOCUMENTS IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA?

Hi Willie,

I'm still new at this and was very confused about the CRESPA and the "Attorney Only" state thing as well.

Well, I called someone at CRESPA and they explained that yes you can witness signings and operate as a notary signing agent, however YOU CAN NOT exchange funds. Meaning you cannot distribute monies before or after a closing-no financial exchanges with or for the borrower or pertaining to the transaction. Other then of course payment that you are to receive for the work that you do as a signing agent.

I have received several calls from different signing services, which are good when you are just beginning. I have come across a couple of signing services that say that you must be an attorney before they will use you. That's all well and good because other companies will use you. When one door closes another opens.

Also, review message #23770 and #24029, which talks about Virginia.
