designated line for fax machine

Does anyone know? I currently do not have a land line activated in my house. I deactivated it last year and do all my calling from a cell phone. I want to get the line activated again so I can use it for a fax machine only. Can this be written off at the end of the year? Tha fax machine purchase and the monthly cost of the land line? How do I prove it's just for the fax machine?

I do have a designated line for my fax machine, and yes, I do write off the charges incurred every month.

Can you tell me briefly how you do that. I know I should keep the receipt for the fax machine but what about the monthly cost. Do you just keep the monthly statements from you provider?

You can write off most any business expense, just keep all of your bills and receipts. Also, my fax prints out a journal of calls in and out every few days and I keep that to prove the calls were made. Check with your tax rep for the most up to date advice.

Thanks. In the past I have done my taxes myself with Turbo Tax but I guess I will be looking for help next year. Are there tax rep's that specialize in our business or will anyone do?

Call your phone company

I know that at work our fax line is designated on our phone bill and states "fax only".

Although it will not matter to the IRS if your phone line is designated for fax or not. It's a business expense and fully deductible.

Re: Call your phone company

I used to work for H R BLOCK many years ago, and I remember that when you want to deduct your phone/fax charges it will have to be for the second line, so if you only have one, that is considered your main line, and no rent will be deduct it. You can still deduct all your long distance calls for faxes and everything but not the monthly phone service because it is use also for personal use and there is no way to allocate personal and bussines. But dont consider this as a tax advise, like I said above that was years ago, so dont trust me.

As far as filing your taxes, go to a hrblock and ask for the senior tax preparer and ask her/him if he has experience with notary returns.

Yes, you can find tax professinals that are very familiar with the aspects of a signing agent. If you would like further info, e-mail me and I can converse with you privately regarding this issue.
