notarizing an agreement, awk or jurat?

I was asked to notarize an agreement for a regular client of mine. Its between her and the
woman who will be taking over her business. My question is, what kind of notarization does an agreement need? Is that my decision to make?

You explain to your client what an acknowledgment & a jurat are then it is up to the client to choose which is appropriate for the document.

We CANNOT make that decision.

Polly, it's not "your" decision to make. The person's signature you are notarizing must decide whether a jurat or acknowledgment is needed.

Thanks

Thats right, I should have thought about it a little more before posting that question. I am always reading my handbook so I know that Im not supposed to make that decision. It was a little before 9am here when I posted, Im still waking up and Im out of coffee. Forgive my absent-minded question. Thanks though.

Polly - They are correct the signer always makes the decision on what type of notarial certificate. I just attended the Arizona Secretary of State Training Workshop and they stressed this point to let them make the decision after you explain the differences.
