24/7

I just have to say how WONDERFUL I feel!! I took a signing for 24/7 because I wanted to give them a chance! It was over 30 days ago and my invoice clearly states anything over 30 days there is a fee added. I had to call to check up on it, she stated she was cutting the check right away(yeah right) and I informed her of my policy!

She said she wasn't going to pay me the fee and I asked her to take me off of their list to never call me again! I FEEL GREAT!!! So empowered!!! I didn't expect it but I thought I would give them a chance, oh well.

Have a safe weekend!

Strategies about late fees. ~~ Hugh?

Listing a "late fee" is a very good idea.

If you wind up taking a company to small claims court for non-payment and the judge finds in your favor, the company will most likely have to pay:

*invoice amount
*all late fees
*court filing fees

When I list late fees on my invoices, I state "$x late fee for every week payment is received after x/x/05." The longer they string me along, the bigger the final late fee.

I do not list a per centage. States have rules about maximum amount of per centage you can charge. If you break the rule, the "late fee" may be considered "interest."

Many states have limits on the amount of interest that can be charged by non-banks. You could be shooting yourself in the foot by listing a % as a late fee.

I think it best to avoid % entirely. I just state an amount.

This can vary by state, so check your own state's rules.

This is my experience, not giving legal advice, yaddah yaddah.

Can you chime in with more information about regulations and strategies?

BecccccccccaWI burrrrrrrrrrrbles:

I find that attitude quite strange, even bizarre. You feel empowered because you took an assignment from a company that has been universally condemned, and, as predicted, the company is stiffing you? Wouldn't it have made more sense to obtain your empowerment from turning them down to begin with, thus giving you the satisfaction of spurning their overtures, letting them know how they are regarded in the profession, and making them hunt for another notary? As it is, all you have done is allow them to complete a job for one of their few clients, and very possibly do so at a greater profit -- the fee you won't get paid -- than they might otherwise make. With that kind of logic, you'll go far -- just not in this profession.

I also burrrrrrbled that I wanted to give them a chance. When people post a "no-no" company there are others who state that they have good luck with them and the "no-no" list is what you make of it and your experiences?

I decided to be open minded and give them a chance. Thanks for the advice about not making it in this profession!

Did you ask them their terms before you took the assignment?

Because I did. I told him I was apprehensive about taking a signing from them because of their reputation. He assured me they would pay within 45 day. I agreed. I was paid on day 44 and that was fine with me.

I did several signings for 24/7 in 2004 and have not experanced any problems getting payment. Although, I felt my fee was cut in half for a no show. I felt it was my fault as I did not make it clear as to what my cxl/no show fee would be. Therefore, I took it with a grain of salt and a learning experance. I couldn't say it was their fault for the misunderstanding. I accepted their no show fee and moved on. I Would be glad to do business with them again!
