Back Date Request From Title

Here it is on an email no less, (copied exactly from email--spelling errors and all--I elected to remove my pay info)

"I will sned the $xx.xx Notary Fee with the package for the Pastor to
hand to you. Please all documents dated for the 17th. They were
supposed to close that day but couldn't get the docum, ents to them in
time. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx"

Well I opened the email after business hours so I sent her a reply which she will no doubt get tomorrow morning. This puts me in a very awkward postion. To make matters worse, the docs are going directly to a church of all places for a pastor to sign.

Here is my reply

"I can not date the documents that I notarize for the 17th. What you are
asking is illegal in the State Of Michigan."

I guess I will wait for her reply tomorrow. The check is in the package and the package is at the church. I will go to the signing and I will close the deal. However, it will close on the 18th. It will be kind of rough explaining it to pastor as I am sure he is not aware a title company is dealing someone in to break the law. How to go about this.......

Quote from The Good Book!

"The truth shall set you free."

Tell the pastor the truth, but be nice and gentle. Do not say that you have been asked to perform an illegal act. Just state that you cannot backdate your notarial acts. The date that the pastor puts on the docs is the pastor's responsibility.

Forward the email message to the proper authority.

Re: Quote from The Good Book!

What amazes me is this title person is probably a notary also.

I know there're notaries that backdate and it is very easy to prove who they are since you can look up most county records online now.

there risk if they're caught.

Same thing happened to me yesterday got a call to do a split closing. I said no problem but then I got a call back that the husband will be signing today with today's date and I should have the wife sign with the 18th also on Thursday (tomorrow the 18th) I said I couldn't and wouldn't do that needless to say she thanked me and said she will find another notary.
