Grant Deed Date?
Today I did my first real-estate related notarial act - notarizing a grant deed. Above the acknowledgement was a printed date of April 27th, 2005. I crossed out that printed date, and hand wrote in today's date - and filled in the ack. I wanted to verify that this was the correct action to take, as I don't normally deal with these kinds of materials - and wanted to verify that I didn't somehow invalidate the document.
Thanx for your help

Unless specifically instructed to I would never alter the date on a document - unless it was the date on the notary certificate. (or the dates on the RTC!)

What did the date reflect? Signing date? Effective date? Did the signers (not you) initial the correction? Definitely null & void without initials. I never change anything in the document without being told to. Notary's domain is the notarial section only. Here you are free to correct any wording/spelling to conform with your state requirement.
I may be wrong, but I believe the date of the document and the signing date has a limited allowable days apart - a funding requirement.

Rule of thumb: never change dates.....concern yourself with your notarial acts/entries :o)
