What are you talking about?
State of Tennesse County of Dolly Parton (or what County you are doing the notarization)
This instrument was acknowledged before me on this 19th day of May 2005.
Is this what you wanted to know?

Are you sure you didn't sign in the wrong place? All the ones that I have seen, the notary signs under this statement.

Why don't you know how to complete an acknowledgement? As a notary it's YOUR JOB to know how to do this. If you don't, you have no business notarizing anything. Shame on you.

Agree! Further, the one who needed help was asking about a JURAT, not an Acknowledgement (that they were being chastised over...)

This wording is a jurat?
"This instrument was acknowledged before me on this ______ day of _____2005"
Wow, you're as good a notary as the original poster.
I'm sorry, but when a notary asks *who* is supposed to sign an acknowledgement, I see no reason to give a delicate kind response. That is pure incompetence and they should not be notarizing anything until they learn what they're doing. As I said before, it is shameful.
Geez, what exactly does it take for you guys to be horrified by your peers if you think these kinds of questions are acceptable?

All I can say is that I hope these people are carrying A LOT of E&O coverage -- and more than just state minimum.

I somehow dobut they do. I have a feeling they think they're great notaries except for the few minor details they don't know, such as how to complete an acknowledgement and other obscure tricky stuff like that.

HELP!!!!!
I assure you I know how to fill out an acknowledgement. The acknowledgement was not what I was questioning but rather what was under it. Which I have since found out should not have been on it because it was for a witness state, which Tenn. is not. In looking back I know I was not real clear on what I was asking so I understand some of your comments but find some of you were way out of line to assume you know who or what I am or even to go so far and comment on where I live.

Re: Cali... Where's your kinder gentler side? n/m
That is CaliNotary's kinder, gentler side.
He was trying to be kind to the unsuspecting borrowers by perhaps putting the fear of God into an abyssmally ignorant notary who has no business handling transactions of the magnitude involved in a home loan.
And to answer the question by that notary: No, this site is not about teaching you the fundamentals of being a notary. That you should know long before you come here.

I suppose I could start adding XOX to the end of all of my posts to show my kind and gentle side.
Gotta say that I found it strange that I was the only one who was horrified that this notary had to ask who signs the acknowledgement, or at least felt the urge to post my horror. Oh well, I'm used to being the lone grouchy voice in a sea of wimps.

Not horrified...being practical.
*I suppose I could start adding XOX to the end of all of my posts.*
Yeah! In fact, from now on, please do that. And add a smiley face to every grouchy post you make.
About horrified...not any more. I have determined that people who will not learn their notary rules are going to be out of this business rather quickly. You have to love this job to do it. It's not brain surgery...it's not, but you have to care about making your business into something worthwhile to stick with it, not become bored with it, and to . It's not something that's worth dabbling in just for the occasional signing...because that's all you will get if you are not focused on making money at it, making it grow, improving yourself, rising to the top of the heap.
If I was "half-way" about this, I'd get sloppy and pretty soon I'd lose clients and then, even the occasional top dollar signing I got would not motivate me to put on pantyhose and 2.00 worth of make up to go do it...I'd get negative, small, unwilling...then, I'd have to get a real job.
If they don't love it enough to learn the basic rules and what goes in the blanks...or if they don't want to earn the respect of their NSA peers by knowing their basic notary stuff...they will fade away and find something more befitting to their personality. Just because they don't have the bent for it is not "bad" but it won't keep them INTO it.
When I see someone who is really trying to "get it" I will tell them every helpful thing I know. People who sign onto a board and want all of it given to them without figuring out that the answers are but a google away will not have the forebearance to stick with it.
And, this is not directed at anyone...it's just that I have observed that those who ask the questions that are easy to find elsewhere are not the ones who are still here two months later.
And, on the other hand...those of us who like it as much as I do...well...my theory is that we are all a little bit on the stubborn, self-contained, independent, and a tad on the moody side, too.
IMHO, that's why we love working alone...That's me, anyhow.

Sylvia, I have seen an ack/jurat appearing within the document. I huffed up and ran to "the rules" and could not find where the rules said the notary cert had to appear below the signature.
I wonder if this is some kind of a field trick to make sure the notary doesn't forget to sign???

Reply by BrendaTX on 5/19/05 8:59pm Msg #39146
Nevermind...I think this is a two act certificate...
They want both the jurat and the ack, perhaps.

Thank you Sylvia, you are always so kind! (want to teach a class here?) I had to leave before I got your answer but thank you. My question was under where I notarized was again the following
State of County of This instrument was acknowledged before me on this ______ day of _____2005
Who signs here >> ____________________________________
I am new at this board but I find there a lot of you that are so quick to jump on others. I thought that was what this board was about.

Marie This is obviously a second notary certificate.
When I have had a document with two notary certificates on (and they were both acknowledgments, or both jurats) and there were two signers, I have just filled out one certificate for each signer. (In Florida we can only charge per notary act, not per signature, so when I come to compute my SE exemption, then there are two notary acts on that document )
