Help Please!

I am in CA. I have had my commission since Oct. but have not notarized any documents as of yet. I have had some calls, the last three days I have had calls to do one mortgage and one refi. I have not had training as a signing agent for these papers, but I believe I could do them. As for edocs, I don't have a laser printer, but was wondering if I can take a floppy or flash drive to Staples for somewhere like that and have them printed. What does one usually make on these kinds of papers? One company offered me $50. and I thought that was rather low, that was for driving 13 miles one way and they would deliver the docs to my house. Another one wanted to send me edocs and then asked if I had done a refi before and when I said no they changed their mind and called someone else. So, when I do get one of these, do I attach an acknowledgement to it? I have had two mortgages and one refi of my own and so I was on the other side and saw what the notary did, but since I wasn't one at the time I did not notice if they attached acknowledgements etc. I know I can do this, I don't think I will need to be replaced by a chimp Smiley

I was going to offer to help you by printing the docs and meeting with you before your signing. But I'm in San Diego County so that's not going to be able to happen. Sorry :-(

I have all the equipment at home and am able to print my docs. I've read where others take them to Kinkos. You might want to try that.

Read Message #30907.....
and before you attempt to handle loan documents, please be familiar with general/basic notarizations....if you are asking us if you attach an acknowledgment to a document, you are clearly NOT READY to handle a loan signing.
PS...at least get a few basic notarizations "under your belt", before attempting to further yourself.
Thank you,
Stephanie

In my most humble stupidity I thought I could ask a question without being treated like I am stupid. Guess I was stupid for thinking that. No, I was not asking about just any document, just loan signing. But never mind I have the answer to that now no thanks to you. Guess we must all begin being notaries with much experience under our belts, as soon as I find out how to do that I'll begin.

Re: Help Please! - getting experience

Best to start by reading post 33325 dated 04/22. Then go back - yes, all the way back - to message number one and start reading. It will take a few weeks, but give you a LOT of information from experienced NSAs.

Re: Help Please! - getting experience

DO NOT feel stupid!!! Some of the notaries on this website berate you for trying to learn. At least your honest enough to admit that you feel inexperienced. I'm in agreement with Sam in CA. Read as many posts as possbile and get as much information as you can before you start taking signings. There is a great deal of info on this website and others from experienced notaries.

Please ignore the rudeness of a few that post here, your question was not stupid.

Agreed, your questions were not stupid.

But I am very concerned about your hostle response when people told you that you are not ready. Not being ready does not equate to being stupid.

Sorry; you're going to hear it again: You're not ready. You need to have quite a few "normal" notarizations under your belt before you tackle mortgages/refinancings/home equity lines of credit. There is a lot to know! The borrowers depend on you doing your job correctly for the biggest investment they'll ever make.

Intelligence has nothing to do with experience. Intelligence is the capacity for learning. Everyone who posts here was new once. We all learn. Personally, I expect to learn every day, and from every person I will learn something.

People must be willing to put in the time and effort to learn to do this very important job. This is not a get-rich-quickly-with-no-investment opportunity. Invest in your education or find another line of work.

I agree, your question was not necessarily stupid. Stupidity is the lack of ability to learn, the lack of intelligence.

Your question was not necessarily stupid. Your question was ignorant. Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, which can result from either the lack of the ability to acquire knowledge or simply the failure to learn. Ignorance can be cured; stupidity cannot, which bodes ill for Republicans.

If your ignorance stems from a lack of ability to learn, then I apologize for those on this forum who spoke somewhat bluntly, and I respectfully suggest that perhaps another forum would be more to your liking and your abilities. If, on the other hand, your ignorance stems from a failure to learn, then I hold little hope for you, since you were quite unwilling to listen to those who pointed you in the only direction possibile to correct your shortcoming: Learning.

OK, this has got to be troll bait. It has pretty much every cliche on this board rolled tidily into just a couple of posts. Who wants to fess up to it? Hugh? Brenda?

Bravo to whoever it was, it gave me quite the chuckle.

Not me. I had a day off today, and like any other woman would, I have spent the day installing a PhpBB forum interface for the Texas NSA Network.

I spent hour after hour after hour making the same mistake ...finally, got it right.

Yessss!

Exactly Anon - I was just suggesting that you become fully familiar with basic notarizations before taking on assignments for loan signings.
I think if you do this, you will find that your signings may go a little smoother.
I hope I didn't berate you with my response - I am just trying to impress - we are Notaries first, Signing Agents second.
Learn the correct way to notarize documents, then learn all you can about loan documents & procedures - you'll be just fine.
