I gave back a signing today
Got a call from a new company (to me at least) today, Notary Connection. They had a signing near me for tomorrow, paid $65. No problem, that was my fee for that city. Said they would be sent overnight, but if they needed to email them did I have capability? I said yes, they said they pay an additional $20 for edocs. I said no, my fee was $25 for edocs. She told me she'd need to find somebody else. No problem.
Less than a minute later she calls back, got approval for my edoc fee. Said she'd email confirmation, asked me to reply to email to let her know I got it and to confirm with borrower ASAP. I told her I wouldn't be home for a few hours but would do it when I got home. No problem.
Got home, replied with "received" to the email they sent me. About 2 minutes later I get another email asking if I had confirmed with borrower yet. Replied that I had just gotten home and would do it shortly. About 15 minutes later called and left message on borrower's cell phone.
About an hour later I was in my car and get a call from the signing service asking if I had confirmed with borrower. I told them I had left a message and asked if they always followed up this often with the notary? She said yes. I told her it was annoying.
We hung up, I thought about it and realized they'd probably be calling me a couple of more times before, during and/or after the signing. I decided that I didn't want to deal with that much hassle for a $65 signing, so I called her back and told her that I had been doing this for 2 years, that I didn't need the kind of handholding they were doing, and that it would be best if I backed out of the signing and they got somebody else.
A couple of minutes later the phone rings, it's a different guy from the company. Wants to know why I cancelled, was it a problem with one of their employees or something like that? I told him that wasn't it, but that they had emailed and called me within 4 hours of giving me the signing was pretty ridiculous and that I just didn't want to have to deal with that kind of hassle as I wasn't a new notary. He started talking about how everything has to be perfect on the edocs or the loan might not fund, blah blah blah.
I told him that it had nothing to do with the edocs, that I just didn't want to work for a company that felt the need to contact me as many times as they already had, that I didn't need to be babysat like a brand new notary and have them follow up to see if I had confirmed with the borrower. He said "you haven't confirmed yet, have you?" I said that yes, I left a message on his cell phone. He said "did you email or call us to let us know that you had confirmed with the borrower?"
By this point I was ready to bang my head against my windshield repeatedly. I told him that he just proved my point on why I didn't want to do this signing, that they way they ran their business and the way that I run my business don't seem to be compatable, and that I didn't want to do business with them. He said "well we don't want to do business with you either" and hung up.
I have a feeling I made the right call on this one

I don't blame you for giving it back!!! What a headache for $65.00 especially at the end of the month when your the busiest and don't need extra calls.

You made the right decision!
Sounds like we need to hook this guy up with Lorri at Accurate Sign Ups. They're perfect for each other. Of course it sounds like inbreeding has already been a factor in their family tree's.
I hate SS's that try to micro-manage you. Call when you receive the assignment, call when you confirm with the BR's, call when you receive the doc's, call after printing the doc's, call when you arrive at the BR's home, call when you leave the BR's home. AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I don't care how much a SS pays. If they expect all these stupid call backs I tell them to find somebody else for the job.

Cali-you are a delight..but watch for concussion
I am having second thoughts about these two countrywides I accepted. I don't want to have to think about the hassle of collecting. I specifically asked the LO if I should bill title, that way when the loan funds, I get paid. These two brainiacs replied "bill countrywide" I went even further and asked, if they had their own escrow service, by the way, that is why countrywide and amerijoke have no idea how to remit payment.
I am at my quota of 15 loans for the month. I think I will just cancel with them tonight so that they can get another notary for this. By the way, they are full spectrum loans.

Funny...I can picture you, banging your head on the steering wheel and throwing the phone out the window. Then, you get stopped for littering.

This is good feedback. I think this is the company (NV) that sent emails asking what our "rock bottom" prices were. Unfortunately, Cali, looks like you were the guinea pig for us.

Re: Didn't have a problem with this company
The signing was close to home, took only 45 minutes including drive time, the docs were overnighted and the $65 check was in my mail box 4 days after the RTC expired. Didn't get any of the calls you were talking about, maybe a fluke, but I would work for them again.

Re: Cali, Notary Connection
Cali, I received a call last Thursday afternoon from Notary Connection. I thought I remembered you talking about them, so I searched and sure enough -- same company.
I was 3 hours away from home and just beginning a signing when I got the call for a Tuesday night signing. I accepted the signing and she said to call and let her know I received confirmation (it wasn't like the signing was the next day). I said I would call them on Friday. About 2 minutes later she calls me again to tell me that the e-mail bounced back to her. I told her I was in the middle of a signing and to just fax it. About 5 minutes later she calls again to ask if I got the fax. Again, I told her that I would call on Friday. About 15 minutes later she calls again. The only thing that saved this woman was that I was sitting in a Church and doing the signing for a Minister.
Friday morning I fax the confirmation back to the woman showing that I had received it. Friday afternoon she calls me to ask if I got the confirmation. H-E-L-L-O. I can't wait for how many calls I will get today (because I left a VM for Borrowers and haven't actually spoken to them), tomorrow before/during and after the signing.

Re: Cali, Notary Connection - CarolynCO
I just saw this message. How did things turn out with this signing? I'm curious as to how many calls you actually ended up with.

Leslie,
you did a horrible job on our docs, at first, you sound really nice and confident on your work but when we got your fax backs it was terrible. I had to call another notary in your area and she said told me she always gets calls to go back out and CORRECT your mistake and even before i said anything, she ask me is it Leslie?!?!? ... I dont understand why you are trashing me on these forums, when you should be practicing how to do notary signings CORRECTLY.
Thank you!
