Mortgagedocs.com
What is with these guys? They request me to do signings 1 - 1-1/2 hours from me for $50.00. They must be finding someone to do it. Got one tonight. Told them $150.

Mary,
With all due respect, I don't think you understand their program. If you work your relationship correctly with them, you can generate a lot of business from them. I speak from personal experience. I try not to go more than about half an hour away, unless I can justify it say by visiting a friend. And the signings (presuming they are WaMu HELOCs) only take about half an hour.
Yes, they will most likely find someone else to handle the specific signing you mentioned, but so what? You should keep in mind that that person who accepts it may be much closer to the signing location. And you may get another request from them for that time slot that is more geographically desireable. That has been my experience too.
You should also be pleased that they have accorded you a broad coverage area. If a notary screws up a lot, MD will cut down their coverage area. Or so they say.

I have one company I'm working with that started me w/$50 signings. After the first one (which was an hour an a half away from my home) they increased me to $125 overnight/$150 eDocs with closings 20 minutes away from my home. I've received 6 closing from them in 2 weeks.
Keep a positive attitude... You may be being tested. I feel like I passed with flying colors!

I agree with Ted. I'll do Mortgage Docs WAMU HELOCS all day long - in & out in 20 minutes, well informed borrowers & the check is always on time.

My first signing with them was an hour away and they agreed to my fee of $125.00. Seems now they request me to go over an hour sometimes 2 hours away for $50.00. I have only done one for them because I can't justify driving 1 1/2 hours for $50.00.

Mary I totally agree with Ted, it is all about establishing a business relationship. I was asked some time ago by one company to do a signing for $45.00, I told them I was sorry but my fee would be $65.00, the location was minutes from my home, loan signing, 30 minutes in and out. They gently mentioned if I lowered my fee, I would probably do more volume. I thanked them for the advice and told them I would consider it in the future. They use me often in my area, always pay my requested fee and within days, I might add. Recently in fact, they increased my fee for some reason.

OK folks, I'm sold! How do I sign up with them? Their web site says I have to register with SignSTAT, but SignStat says they're not in business yet - coming summer 2005.

Ernest would that e-mail to Pete contain info on how to get ahold of mortgagedocs.com? I would love to be able to contact them. I have been checking thier site weekly for 2 months hoping that it would be up and running sooner than expected. It sure would be nice to be able to sign up with them before then. Once they're up they'll be flooded with notaries signing up.

For Marie
If you are a Premier Member of Notary Rotary, log in and post a message using the "Add link to my profile" checkbox. I'll get your email address from your Profile and send the same email message.
In the future you will find it helpful to have the two-letter abbreviation for your state as part of your Author name. It will help people help you by giving you advice specific to your state.
By asking for your Profile, I'm just trying to avoid alerting my competition to certain facts.

Ernest,
Could I also get that email please? I've been waiting for SignStat to launch and have even called mortgagedocs.com directly to see if I could sign up with them. They said they're not accepting any new notaries until the launch and if they need a notary for an area where they don't already have one, they find one through the internet (notrot).
Thanks!

Don't get too excited. They rarely call you. You need to be sitting infront of the computer to accept the closings as they come out.
I don't do much as I'm out closing loans and cannot monitor the computer. Just wanted to give you the reality.

There's another way...you don't have to sit in front of
your computer. I do them as well. Agree with above posters, in and out in 20-30 minutes, quick and easy. I get about 1-3 calls a week. If your cell phone allows, you can have them text message you. You simply reply back with a text message (or call them) and they'll assign it to you.
Months ago they told me that each notary is put on a rotation and once you accept a signing, you're added to the end of the list. The first notary is notified and if they don't respond in a certain amount of time, then the next notary gets informed. This way it is fair for everyone and they are not calling the same notary over and over again. Although, I am now questioning that theory, because I used to get 1-2 calls a month and now I'm getting a few a week. Either their volume has increased or I've moved up the food chain.

Has everyone forgotten that there is a Siging Service page here? Just click on the Signing Service tap and you'll find them.

It is here. But the problem is that it takes you to a site that is not up and running. That is why everyone was trying to get info from Ernest who had more insight.

For anyone else who wants an email message:
If you are a Premiere Member, please log in and post a message here using the "Add a link to my Profile" checkbox. If you are not a Premiere Member I cannot / will not give you the data. Sorry!
Call me selfish, but there's no point in my revealing certain information to my local competition. I will use your Profile to determine what area you cover. As long as your territory and mine do not overlap, I will be happy to share what I know about contacting and / or enrolling with any signing service, title company, or lender.
If you and I are local competitors, I will help you with any questions that do not have a negative impact on my ability to obtain signings. I will never intentionally tell you an untruth, nor recommend a signing service that I know to be a turkey. If you would like me to refer overflow work to you, I will.
