Okay this is annoying...
A few weeks ago I got a call from Professional Settlement asking if I wanted to be put in their database. They told me they pay $50. Needless to say, when they sent their packet, I didn't fill it out.
Yesterday at 8am, I get a call from them for a 9am edoc signing. We agreed on a fee. I print the edocs and the signing goes off without a hitch. I ask them what do I need to do to get paid. He said I have to fill out their notary application packet. I said fine.
One of their requirements in the packet is to download and print a TIL and send it back to verify I can and know how to receive Edocs. Of course, since I did a whole 100 page edoc package for them yesterday, I didn't do this part.
I get an email this morning saying I need to print the sample TIL. I told her that is ridiculous since I did an edoc assignment for them yesterday. She said she still needs it.
Give me a flippin' break! Why don't you just look at the damn loan packet you're getting today, or better yet, the TIL I had to fax back to you yesterday!

Did you get an e-mail confirmation for your fee before doing the assignment?

Oh yeah, I don't do anything w/o a confirmation. nt

I wouldn't be filling out any packet after the fact. If they hired you w/o it they must pay you unless they told you at the time of the order it was required. I get calls from them several times a month (turn them down each & every time) and I've never filled out a packet.

I agree the packet has nothing to do with the signing you already did. The contract for that assignment is the confirmation you recieved prior to doing the assignment. Unless the confirmation stated that in order to get paid you must fill out and return the packet before getting paid they cannot make that a requirement.
Now if (big if) they are holding your check until they get the sample TIL fax in then that is something that I would keep in mind when deciding whether or not to take more assignments from them. If they aren't holding your check but they just want that for thier files and SOP then yeah it can be annoying but could be worth the future assignments.

They call me all the time, too - even after I emailed them back a "No, thank you" I don't want to sign up with your company! Go figure! The sample TIL thing is ridiculous - sometimes it's as though they don't even have brains.

Title Co
My understanding is that they have a single client; Resource Title. Whenever I see that, I know that it's a Title Co with a notary signing division, put in place to reduce fees to notaries. Quoting Title fees would be appropiate in situations like this.

Exposing them as a title company
Thank you very much, Hampton, for exposing this title company as being yet another TC posing as an SS.
You were absolutely right when you said: "Quoting Title fees would be appropiate in situations like this."

Except that's not who I returned the package to
It was Network Closing Services in Orlando. Maybe Hampton is thinking of a different company?

Re: Exposing them as a title company
That sounds unethical, I wonder if it is unlawful for a Title co. to also be a SS and collect on the notary fees??

Re: Exposing them as a title company
Quite a few title companies now have their own signing companies! FASS, LSI (in CA) for starters.

Re: Exposing them as a title company
They saw another way of getting more of the profit from the transaction. Smart move. My daughter is an escrow officer. They use their own employee's for in house signings and fee is split between the escrow officer and the person doing the notary work. The title company dose not keep the fee, that is why I wondered if it was perhaps not ethical for a Title company to profit from notary fees, but if it is being done, perhaps it is something they can do if they choose.

Re: Exposing them as a title company
Also, might they not become liable if a notary messes up as they are receiving the payment?

Re: Exposing them as a title company
Both LSI in CA and PA are both Title and Escrow Companies that have a division with in the company that schedules signing appts for their escrow officers
