Question about GAC

I recently put an application in for this company and had to pay $30 for a background check. How long does this usually take??? It is a new policy for notaries.

You paid $30 to sign up with a signing service? Please say it isn't so!

They are one of my highest payers and I have never had a problem with them. They pay in about 30-45 days but they have always paid.

The $30 fee must be something new.

It's for certain lenders. If you don't agree to it, from what they say, you cannot work for these lenders. After much griching and growling...I agreed to have it deducted from my first check...which was a nice one, I might add...and they did not take it out. However, I got the letter stating they had done the bg check.

No...I won't do it for all of them. Yes...I hate the idea of it.

But, I have a "mentor" who is one of the ones who seldom posts because he does really well...my mentor told me to do it, and he's never given me a wooden nickel yet. This little piece of advice has paid off just fine for me.

I had a conversation with a gut at GAC and he stated that the $30 br check was supposedly for a new lender that might come on board doing a lot of military signings. I don't know why a br check is required to do military signings but that is what I was told. I have done signings with people in the military that work at local bases and have not had this requirement from other lenders. I have not paid the fee.

First, you may want to find out how saturated

they are with signing agents for your area. A few months ago I inquired as to how many SA's they had in their database for my area, and they had too many. I wanted to make sure that if I was going to pay the $30, that I would receive signings in return. The gentlemen advised me to call back in about 6 months because I may have a better change then.

Let us know how when you get your first signing with them!

Re: First, you may want to find out how saturated

I paid the $30 fee for the background check reluctantly because what I was told or it was stated to me that if I wanted to continue to receive work from GAC, not because of this "big account" that I would have to submit to the BG check. I did and then because they considered my fees were too high, they took me out of their database. I was livid. I called vendor management up and they said agents in my area were taking $75-$100 for e-doc fees. I told them I wanted my $30 back. Never got it. My fees were very fair for the travel. This is where many signing agents are cutting the throats of all agents when they low-ball like this.

You appear to be in California and, since the Secretary of State requires LiveScan AND a bckground check by the Dept. of Justice as prerequisites for certifying you as a notary it seems doubly bad that you would be charged for a 'background check' which could be nowhere near as complete as the DOJ check. I would respectfully decline their request for a fee. BTW, $100 incl EDOCS isn't bad for signing your next door neighbor provided they write fast. Otherwise, no way.

I have worked for GAC for a year and never had them request a BG ck. I just did n=one for them and the subject never came up. If they adked i would agree beuz they do pay on time. I'd ask it to be deducted from my next check tho.
