Re: Did not take a $100.00 signing

Well I turned down a signing for Saturday that would have been $100.00 counting edocs. The reason I turned it down is ss refused the extra $100.00 for mileage it is over 100 miles from here to where the signing would be. Because of the price of gas I told the ss I could not do it for less than $200.00 she said that's more than I'm getting. So, she hung up when I told her that my fee was firm.

Thanks Melody I was hoping someone would reply since I used to take $50 signings. Now I am a bit more cautious as to what I accept and what I turn down. I take into consideration every thing that is figured into my fees. The paper, the time printing, the time driving, the miles driven. It does not make sense to take a signing that is going to cost you money when you are in the business to make a living.

Now if only more people would figure their fees the same way, we could eliminate the flaky outfits, or rather they would eliminate themselves!

I am new in the business p/t, and I don't want to abuse my notary acts, so when charging for mileage do we charge for round trip? This may seem like an dumb question to some, but I really need to know to be sure.

Re: Did not take a $100.00 signing

Reggie, Thanks for not selling yourself short.

200 miles at approx. .40 cents per mile for wear and tear = $80
Even if it only 'cost' you 5 cents per page to print at 75 x 2 copies =150 (x .05), that would be $7.50

$100 - $80 - $7.50 = $12.50
for a 5-6 hr time commitment.

You'd have made less than $2 per hr. with other expenses of business factored in.

Claps and snaps for you! I too am fairly new to the SA field, but we must stick together to keep standards of payment at a reasonable level. And not trying to sound dramatic, but I have colleagues with years of experience and they admit that much more is required now in the loan closing process.

Factors such as the standards of technology (laser printers/speedy Internet connection/cell phones) creeping higher, necessity and costs of education/training/memberships, not to mention the rising costs of gas coupled with the tendency to be more fast-paced & high-stress. When we still accept those $50, even $60 closings we barely make more than we would working at fast food joints! And at least there work uniforms are provided. - ha
