When do you say enough is enough?

I was given this signing last Thursday. I was given borrowers home phone and tried 10 times to reach the borrower. I thought everyone had an answering machine, well I was wrong.

I contacted the SS the next day and let them know I need an alternate number. They did provide one that was to be the cell phone.

I called the number and it was a residence not a cell. I left a message and asked what time the borrower would be home. I was informed between 4 - 4:30.

The borrower has never returned my call and I have since put in over 20 more calls. Remind you neither number has an answering machine.

Tonight I FINALLY got a hold of the borrower. I tried to schedule for tonight and the borrower says no, MAYBE tomorrow. I let him know this may not work as I was informed he had to sign by today. Again, I assumed shame on me. The LO wanted to be paid this month and their cut off was today! LO requests I call him back. I stated one more attempt to call and after that I am DONE!

Guess what.... borrower does not answer. I have been calling the SS as well as the LO to update and quite honestly I have put in so much time explaining to LO and SS, calling borrower, etc. I did let everyone involved know I am backing out of the signing. Since that time I am getting calls and calls and calls. They even emailed to say borrower maybe able to sign between 4-6 and they want me to do it.

I think enough is enough. Even if the guy signs, when he realizes his 5% rate is going to 11% and his LO is charging 4 points and as flaky as the guy is, the loan will never close! Why bother?

When is enough for you?

Lori

I think you have already gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Mabe the borrower already knows hes getting a raw deal, therefore not interested and is already shopping for a better deal.

30+ calls? No way would I call that many times. If I don't get a return call after 2 messages, I'll call the SS and tell them that the borrower isn't returning my calls. I would probably try about 5 times if I couldn't leave a message before contacting the SS.

I've found that when they're not returning my calls, there's usually a reason for it, so I'm not going to waste my time. Let someone else deal with convincing the borrower to sign.

You would think the LO and signing company would be a little more interested in trying to get ahold of the borrower to set up the appointment, so they can get their cut. But, they know the NOTARY will do it for them.
