did I quote too much?

I got a call at 3:30 this afternoon for a signing at 5 pm for "just 5 or 6 pages"
It was edocs and I would have to go home, print them, go to the signing, ship them, and make it across town by 6 pm.I quoted $75.00 taking into consideration rush hour traffic. I never got a call back from them. Was it toomuch? It didnt seem like it. The loan was going to fund tomorrow and these docs were overlooked or done wrong by original notary.

SS companies will shop aroung for 5.00 dollars. I had a couple of calls last week where they wanted me to go 23 miles one way for 50.00 dollars. They were spanish speaking people. But for some reason I take a lot longer with spanish speaking clients. 2 hours in average. So I gave them my price and they never called back.

I guess they found someone cheaper or at least the fee they wanted to pay.

Re: did I quote too much?Susan

I used to get calls for Lake Arrowhead all the time. But you have to take a fire road from here so I would turn them down. Havent got any calls for awhile, they must have found you Susan, are you the only notary up there?

I really only get calls for the mountains, I prefer to stay up here when I'm not working for the school district. I adore my mountains, hate to leave them, even for signings.

I don't think you quoted to much..because then you will never make anything.

Hi, I don't think you charged too much either. If we as a profession begin to demand what we are worth---all of us, then the SS will have no choice but to pay up instead of nickle and diming us. It' s too bad all of us are not cognizant of the fact that united, notaries are more likely to make a differeece in increasing what SS companies are paying signing agents as a whole.

Congratulations on realizing the value of your time and service. If you don't know its worth, how can you ask for it?

Although I don't know how far of a drive it would have been for you, I typically quote around $50.00 for short little things like that, just as long as it is within about 5-8 miles and/or less than 20 mintue drive one-way. Any more than that, and they are likely to find someone to do it cheaper. These type of assignments are best handled by notaries in very close proximity to the signer. Hope this helps.

Doc Printing

You could have had 5 or 6 pages printed a KINKOS for about $3 and saved a trip home
Have the company send to your e-mail. You can access your e-mail from KINKOS' computer or your lap top if you carry one with you as I do, and print it out
I am spoiled here becaise I am never more than a few minutes away from one
I keep a list in my car

Re: Doc Printing

Yeah, Kinkos comes in handy, but my advice to you.....don't print out a bunch of documents there because it'll cost you the whole signing fee. A couple weeks ago I printed 48 pages of the letter size, plus another 48 for borrowers copies, but I couldnt get the legal sized paper to print here at work (yes, using company property...hehe) and of course I didn't buy my laser printer yet, so stupid me, I went to kinkos to print it from the e-mail.....total of 72 legal sized pages, $45!!!!!!!!! it was an emergency and I had no other choice because going to Kinkos was unexpected (whew, glad to get that off my chest) 4 or 5 pages would be fine, but even 10 pages costs too much over there, plus the "usage fee" they charge, for every minute you're on their computer. I bought my laser printer, finally, and hopefully that won't happen again! Smiley And no, I don't think you charged too much either, of course we have to set a high value for the work we do. Think about it, people can't process the documents they're in need of until us notaries finalize its preparation before they're completely processed...especially loan docs. People are in a huuuurrrryyyyyyy to get their money from the bank, and they can't untile WE NOTARIZE....sorry for the novel Smiley
