id question
I am doing an interspousal grant deed. Borrower is to sign with Jack R. Smith, an unmarried man, aka: Jackson Smith, aka: Jack Smith. If the name on DL is Jackson Smith what name do I put on notary certficate? Do I just put the ine name on DL. Also who is the entity on the preliminary change of ownership and does borrower fill this out? Thanks for your help

Can't answer your questions except the name that goes on a notary certificate should always be the name you can identify them as, so if the name on the drivers license is Jackson Smith, that is all you could ID him as, and that is the name that would be on the notary certificate.

Thanks Sylvia, can you put the other names too, if the DL has middle initialbsince it is less but not more?

You can only put the name you can ID him as. If his drivers license says Jackson Smith, you can only notarize Jackson Smith.

If the name on his ID is Jackson Smith then you can not have him sign Jack R. Smith. You need some proof that his middle name begins with an R.

Well, sort of.
Sylvia is, as always, correct. If his ID says "Jackson Smith" then that's what you put in your journal and in the notarial blocks.
On the a.k.a. afadavit, however, he CAN swear that he is also known as "Jackson R. Smith", "Jack R. Smith", and "Jack Smith" because that's HIM swearing. You still notarize the afadavit in the way his ID reads, if there is a place in the notarial block for his name.

Oh yeah - forgot to add that the customer fills out any/all forms. You can only fill out the notary certificate.

To complicate further I called the recorder's office and they said they will not record the interspousal grant deed unless I put the same names on it that the borrower signed. So, if I can only verify one name I'm stuck. I called ss and they are going to get bak to me. Prelim has one loan that is being paid off in the name of Jack R. Smith and one in name of Jackson Smith. Again printed on doc under signature line: Jack R. Smith, aka Jackson Smith, aka Jack Smith Name on DL Jackson DelRosario Smith Borrower says the del should not capitalized & Rosario is his real middle name, hence the R. for middle initial, but DMV would not issue that way,

error: I said recorder said I needed to put the same names on the interspousal grant deed. I meant on my notary certificate. No one thinks I can do that ? stretching a bit but Jack is less not more and the middle initial is in Rosario.
