Attorney only states

Does anyone know off hand which states are the 'attorney only' states?

Do a search and you'll get your answer.

Massachusetts and Georgia are -- and I think one of the Carolina's are as well.

Maryland is not an attorney state, but you have to be a licensed something-or-other to do signings.

State laws that effect the Loan Document Signer 12 states have laws that effect the work of the Notary-Loan Document Signer in some way. To avoid potential legal problems, here is a list of these states for reference:

AL 1 IL 3 SC 1
CT 2 MD 4 TX 6
DE 1 MA 1 VT 1
GA 1 NC 5 WV 1

1 Attorney -only state
2 Lawyer's presence customary but borrower may waive.
3 Must be licensed as an independent escrowee
4 Must be licensed as a title insurance producer
5 Notaries may only charge fees expressly authorized by law.
6 Certain loans can't be closed in homes, but must be closed in title offices.
