Computer Help.... deleted files

Does anyone know how to get a file back that may have been deleted in error. It's also gone from the recycle bin, I checked. Any help would be appreciated, I need computer CSI. TIA.

If you're running Win9x, you can still recover it with Norton. If you're running WinNT, Win2K or WinXP try using FileRestore instead (http://www.winternals.com/Products/FileRestore/). FileRestore does a real good job of recovering lost or deleted files, so long as you haven't re-formatted the drive yet.

Thank you. I have not done a thing yet, like reformat. I'm afraid if I download a recovery program it may write over the space i created by deleting the file in error. Do you know if that will happen? I have Windows XP.

I would go to last Restore Point. Hopefully, your system is set to make a restore point everyday...

If you do a restore, it will only restore your settings (and programs). It will not restore individual files. I've noticed this when doing restores for other purposes.
