The Notary Signing Agent should not make ANY marks on the documents (excluding the notary certificates) unless specifically instructed by the lender or title company. Dates on docs should be written by the signer. Only exception may be when directed to change dates such as on the RTC, but as directed. I am very careful about noting which docs need to be signed and dated and instructing the signers to "sign and date". If they miss a date, the document is placed in front of them again. Be careful when looking for dates too. Sometimes you will see the date above where they sign and worded similar to "Executed this _____ day of __________,____."

I always make sure the borrower dates the docs. It is he who is signing and it is he who should know everything about what he is signing. I don't want the borrower to comeback later and make some big deal out of a date being in someone else's handwriting.

My reverse mortgages are always through the same TC and the same LO is always present. Many times he has allowed the Borrower(s) who are in wheelchairs or having difficulty signing, sign just their name and then *he* dates them -- trying to make it easier on them. I just roll my eyes.
