Man, I feel horrible guilty
I just did a signing where the broker did the talk, I just ID'd and stamped, no edocs or faxbacks or shipping or endless reading or questions or calls to the LO...or anything...all in 30 minutes for $75.00.
Did I charge enough?

Nice! Faxbacks are ridiculous! I never make notaries do them. It is their responsibility to make sure the docs are correct and if they are wrong I won't use them again, that simple. As PAW said earlier, trust your people! I wish it was like this all of the time, don't feel guilty.

Anon1, you're a signing service?
Actually I did have a point with the post (but failed to make it)...this was a nice deal, inhouse with my own TC. Yet, it's taken me seven months to get "in the door" and these are the folks I work with every day.
It's not easy to get TC jobs in saturated areas - it takes a lot of work, marketing yourself and patience. Once you get them tho, treat them like gold. I would have done this one for free if it would have made any difference to the escrow officer. I intend to take her to lunch this week in hopes of getting her after hours and weekend signings. Whew, the dam is finally breaking!

I do signings myself and yes, I am a ss too. I only have 6 notaries in this state (CO) that I love to death and NEED MORE people just like them so I can have some time to myself! and then I have a lot out of state sa's that do a pretty good job too but it took a lot of trial and error.
You are correct about getting the jobs with tc's. They are your best friend because they will treat you well and since this is a small world of a business, you will get lots of referrals!
You go girl!

Carolyn, ok here you go again with the comments. Who is everyone, you? You don't even know who I am and neither does anyone else up until I just emailed Brenda. Now you're just talking out of nowhere and that is pretty rude especially after I felt bad from what Brenda said in the other post. Thanks!

Oh wait, are you implying that I'm Signing Star or True Home? Nope, not.
I don't do any advertising with my company. I work direct for tc's in this area and a few out of state.
Relax, please.

Then that does it, I must not know you and must be thinking of someone else. Like I said, I couldn't remember if it was Pueblo or up north. I'd have to look in my files and right now I'm too lazy to get up.

Threads grow and make a life of their own...that's sort of the fun of it...sometimes they turn into run-away trains that absolutely become...train wrecks!

Re: AW!! Come on Anon1 tell us the name of your ss
Thanks TG.
I don't mind sharing with a few people on here, I just won't post my personal info/name etc on a www site. That's just me! I have my personal reasons and it's not about me not wanting people from here to know who I am, I'm not afraid of that at all, I'm actually just afraid of the freaks on the internet in general, meaning people who are not from here who lurk, lol. I could change my alias NotRot name but I don't think it will make a diff, that's why I just used anon1.
I'm not a huge company but a very reputable one and that is another thing I don't want damaged just from posting on a message board because often people judge you by your posts. I do it, so I'm sure others do it to me too but that doesn't influence the way I do business.

I don't know about you but I read that as dripping with sarcasm & disdain. It seems like all anons like to do is irritate people. By the way, I don't hate "you", I hate people who hide behind anon. What not put your inits and state?

Re: Signing Star/True Home ???
It was dripping with sarcasm, you are correct. I get tired of Carolyn putting herself on a pedestal. She does it to myself and quite a few others on here. That is my opinion and I'm sticking to it. There were some earlier things that I said, like one comment, that I apologized for, I truly felt bad that I said some things about/to her. Does she recogize that? No. Does she ever apologize to anyone on this board? No.
I can do that Kyle, posting my initials and state is one thing. There is no secret that I'm in Colorado but my question to you is what difference would it make if I put CO at the end of Anon1 or if I put my initials with CO at the end of it?

Re: Signing Star/True Home ???
Because my opinion is that the only people who use anon have something to hide. Whats wrong with XYCO where XY is your inits? Are you the only person in CO with those inits?

Ok, Beth, then done deal. I don't mind leaving it at that, not at all. But I do refuse to have just "anyone" look at my profile or know my whole name. I just can't do it. I think my reasoning is good and one I like to keep to myself.

Re: Signing Star/True Home ???
that's okay. For most everybody, it's not about looking at profiles. It's just for differentiating (spell?) the posters. When you talk to me for example, you know I'm Beth. I think initials or first names or even an alias is better than being annonymous. I know this one poster who uses her middle name!

Re: Signing Star/True Home ???
Beth, ya that makes sense. I'm more concerned with the outside world looking in at profiles, mine particularly or looking me up on nna.com or the like and getting my address and stuff via a direct name search. I guess it doesn't bother me as much to see anon posters because I look at everyone here as anon since I don't know them personally, face to face sorta speak.
But I do get confused when I'm reading anon postings right after the other and when there are a lot in one thread so that is understandable.

I know how you feel
I did a signing last week where the lender came with the docs and I met him at the borrower's home. It was 2 loans and the only docs needing notarized were the DOT's. He had me go thru the loan packages just to make sure. Sure enough - 2 DOT's only. Had me notarize them, and said I could leave, he would go over the loans with the borrowers. The agreed upon fee for this was $150 ($75 per loan). Yes, I felt guilty but didn't argue. :-)

I sure hope you're over your guilt! I did a closing where the lo jumped right in (stated "I used to do closings for a living") and I figured hey..you wrote the loan. The Sh**head called the title co and said I didn't explain a thing!!! GRRR to him! As for your fee... WOOHOO to you!

Tongue-in-cheek? [Re: Man, I feel horrible guilty]
I think TitleGalCA, was being tongue-in-cheek. We get into enough awful closings that it's OK to have a sweet one now and then. It all comes out in the wash, right?

I got 100.00 for 3 notaries . . . 5 or 6 signatures. I was in and out in 10 minutes. The broker/loan officer pulled all the required documents for me I ID'd the borrowers, notarized, had them sign my book, shook their hands and was done!

Reply by CaliNotary on 11/15/05 4:34pm Msg #76785
I had one that was a fairly long drive, 40 miles or so. The broker was going to be there so I was dreading it and preparing myself mentally to push the signing along without letting him talk and talk and drag it out.
I got there, the broker had gotten there before me and already went through the docs and had everything signed. The only doc that needed notrarization was the DOT. I was in and out in 5 minutes.
I briefly thought about charging less to the SS, but then I figured I had eaten enough in trip fees for no signs with them (they give me a ton of business, totally worth the occasional trip fee only) that I deserved every penny of it. And it's not like they would have charged less to the borrower if I reduced my fee, so why should I just put more in their pocket?
