Minor computer help needed :-)
Well, I went ahead and purchased a second computer and my cable is fine for now. The other computer is still giving me problems though. I am waiting for a modem replacement from SBC hopefully that will help. It is so refreshing to not have to write each post 4 times before it does post.
My first question is this: I have different software programs istalled in the first computer ( which will now become my back up) from the edocs I was receiving. Should I be installing the same progams to this computer or is it better to wait and install the programs as the edocs arrive?
Now for my second question, this new monitor is a wide screen therefore windows I open are viewed in wide format. The text is smaller than before it seems to be 9 point , is there a way to change the font size so that when I am on the internet the copy is not hard to read?

Did you get my e-mail? I've sent out about twenty or so, and wondering you you all are getting the info requested.

Re: not help but...
Yes, I did, I sent you a reply . To be honest I was pleasantly surprised at your quick response. I have a busy day with my daughters today (minimum day at school) but I can't wait until tonight to get started with the training.
Again, thank you very much. :-)

If I was you I would download all the software that you need to open docs. (swiftview, adobe acrobat etc.) That way when you are sent docs, your not in a rush downloading programs.

Right click on your desktop click properties appearance advanced this will allow you to change font sizes
Sorry, I can't help with the other.

I tried it, it aked me for the option of selecting Windows classic, windows XP or Media Center. It then gave me choice of selecting font size: normal, large and extra large, afterward I would select apply but as soon as I was back on the board the text was the same size as before. My eyes are straining.
My first question was mostly wanting to know if there were pros or cons for downloading the programs before or at the time of receiving edocs.
Thank you both.

I have all of the viewers I use on my system. PAW suggests this is not a good thing. I think it's a personal prefference.
You're welcome.

Jenny, my prefernce would be to install ADOBE ACROBAT and have the other files ready to install when I needed them. I wouldn't put something on your new computer that you may never use. However, if you have warranty on the computer and want to see what might happen when you install all those drivers, you have the warranty to fall back on while it's still good. Course, you have to check and see what exactly the warranty covers....
Also, I would wait because when it is time to install a program, there might be a newer/better version you can download from the website.

I would download the files but not install them until I need them. Regarding the fonts, if you go to my computer, control panel, internel options and click fonts (under general tab), you can change the display of web pages and documents that do not have a specified text font. Hope it helps.

Re: Minor computer help needed :-) - Fonts question
Install Firefox as your browser. Not only is it safer (not a target for hackers and the like), it does a really good job blocking unwanted pop-ups. But, for your particular situation, it has a text setting that is easily managed by CTRL+ and CTRL-. This enlarges and decreases, respectively, the text size on the screen. I find it immensely handy when going to different web sites, especially bulletin boards and forums.

Re PAW, this is great!!! Problem solved.
My eyes were soooo tired. Thank you so much! I'll have to explore and see what this browser has to offer.

Re: Minor computer help needed :-) - Fonts question
PAW posted this hint before, and it has helped me. I discovered a few other ways to use this feature: (1) My mouse has a wheel between the buttons; holding the CNTL key down while turning the wheel does the same thing as CNTL+ and CNTL- (2) If I loose track of what size I'm on, and want to return to the "regular" size, I click View->Text Size->Medium

Re: Minor computer help needed :-) - Fonts question
Gerry, you are right. I have a mouse with the wheel between and it is very convenient. Also, on the Firefox browser you could chose view and then text size. It will allow you to increase or decrease the font size. I love that browser!
