So...what would you do?
I went to a signing last night with Edocs. Got there and realized the docs were all drawn up wrong. Called the lender...they want to draw up new docs not sign the other docs. But I spent an hour with the borrower on the phone to the lender and still printed Edocs. I notarized four signatures for the transaction (Grant Deeds to change vesting on the property which were correct). I have to go back today. Shouldn't I get full fee for both trips?

I agree that you should get a full second fee, but am not so sure you will. I guess what I would take into consideration is how far you went for the closing, and how much business you have done with the company. At some point you have to just eat a few dollars. If I was doing a closing for a company that pays me $20,000/year, and I only traveled 10 miles, I wouldn't get too worried about it, and would maybe just ask for a printing fee.(if I asked for anything) Of course it also depends how much the original fee was. If they were only paying $75, then I would ask for an additional whole fee. If I was getting paid $250, that might be excessive to ask for another $250. It's a judgement call. But I would hate to lose a company that pays me $20,000/year over the cost of printing some documents. Also, they will probably just add it to the HUD anyway and make the borrower pay for their mistake.

Two things in my opinion: One why didn't you notice something was wrong when you printed them? Didn't you review them before leaving for aptmt? Don't get me wrong, there are a LOT of times we are printing and running to meet aptmt time. Secondly, in this instance I would send an email to the company that hired you stating what has happened. Consider your fault, if any, in not catching the problem before going the first time and ask for a comparable addt'l fee for your second trip and reprinting docs. Tell them you will not go to the second aptmt until you receive a reply with acceptance of the addt'l fees necessary. If this is no fault of yours by all means ask for the full fee a second time.

lulu...
If I had to comb every doc I print, no one would be able to afford me.

Re: lulu...
I totally agree. They are paid a lot more than we are. One would think they could be sure that what they send to us is correct. It seems that is in a perfect world though. Seems they rely too much on us as sa's to know what should or shouldn't be and correct their mistakes. Just responded based on what I figure the company would be telling me. As we have to go through and see that certain docs are in the package, such as the HUD, I believe we are expected to review the docs to the best of our ability and 'try' to catch their mistakes. It does take more time but if you can catch problems ahead of time it helps to build a better rapport with our customers that they can trust our abilities and our compentence and they will be sure to call us first the next time they need an sa.

Hey Becca...
That makes me want to turn that into an e-mail and send it to them as a reply to the confirmation when I accept a signing. I love the way they get a HUGE chunk of change and pass their responsibilities down to the SA. I always make sure I have all the docs and unless there is a glaring mistake, I do not and will not comb every page of a 150 pkg., period

Re: Charm
Same here. If they want me to comb every document, they're going to have to open their check books a lot further than they are now.
